Section 36; SAFETY GLASS. It shall be unlawful to <br /> operate any motor vehicle which is registered in the Mate of <br /> 'dwashington and which shall have been manufactured or assembled on or <br /> after January 1, 1938, unless such vehicle be equipped with safety <br /> glass wherever glass is used in partitions, doors, windows and wind- <br /> shields. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, corporation or <br /> association to sell any motor vehicle in the ►)tate of `yashington which <br /> shall have been manufactured or assembled on or after January 1, 1938, <br /> unless such motor vehicle be quipped with safety glass wherever glass <br /> is used in partitions, doors, windows and windshields. <br /> Any replacement of glass wherever glass is used in parti- <br /> tions, doors, windows or windshields of any vehicle after the effective <br /> date of this ordinance, upon any motor vehicle required by this <br /> section to be equipped with safety glass, shall be by the use of <br /> safety glass and it shall be unlawful for anyone to make or procure <br /> such replacement with other than safety glass. <br /> The term "safety glass" shall mean any product composed <br /> of glass, so manufactured, fabricated, treated or combined with <br /> other materials as substantially to prevent shattering and flying <br /> of glassfragments when struck or broken, or such other or similar <br /> transparent material as may be approved by the Mate Commission on <br /> Equipment; Provided, that "tempered" or "case hardened" glass shall <br /> not be deemed to meet the requirements of this section. <br /> Section 37: P AEWtATIC TIRES. It shall be unlawful to <br /> operate any vehicle unless the same shall be compl tely equipped, with <br /> pneumatic rubber tires; Provided, this section shall not apply to <br /> animal-drawn vehicles or to highway or roadbuilding equipment operated <br /> by the state, or by any county, city or other political subdivision, <br /> or under the direction or supervision of the state, or of any county, <br /> city or other political. subdivision, or farm tractors or heavy <br /> duty vehicles operating under valid special permits. <br /> Section 33; SAFETY CHAINS. It shall be unlawful to <br /> operate any vehicle upon the public highways of this city without <br /> having the load thereon securely fastened and protected by such <br /> safety chains or other device as may be prescribed by the State <br /> Commission on Equipment. <br /> erection 39: `VHEEL SPRAY. Every vehicle shall be equipped <br /> with a device adequate to effectively reduce the wheel spray or splash <br /> of water from the roadway to the rear thereof. <br /> Section 40; LIGHTING EQUIPTv1ENT. Every vehicle shall be <br /> equipped with lamps and illuminating devices as required by the <br /> Washington ,otor Vehicle act, and may be equipped with additional <br /> lamps and illuminating devices as permitted therein. All vehicle <br /> lamps and illuminating devices required by said act shall be lighted <br /> during the hours of darkness ; provided, that no lights need be <br /> displayed upon any such vehicle when parked upon any public highway <br /> of the city in accordance with the parking regulations of this <br /> ordinance if there is sufficient li0ht to reveal any person or object <br /> within a d. stance of five hundred (500) feet upon the highway. Any <br /> lighted headlamps upon a parked vehicle shall be depressed or dimmed. <br /> Section 41; STATE J. S IaNC0HPC/RATLD. The provisions of <br /> Sections 14, 15, 18, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27 and 30 of Chapter 189, Laws <br /> of 1937, and of Sections 16, 17, 23 and 26 of Chapter 189, Laws of <br /> 1937, as amended and added respectively by Sections 2, 3, 4 and 5 of <br /> -16- <br />
