• (16) HOURS OF DARKNESS: Whenever used in this ordinance shall mean the hours from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise, and any other time when persons or objects may not be clearly discernible at a distance of five hundred (500) feet. (17) INTEtSECTION AREA: The area embraced within the prolongation of the lateral curb lines, or, if there are no curbs, then the lateral roadway boundry lines, of two or more public highways which join one another at an angle, whether or not such highways cross one another. (18) INTERSECTION CENTER LLA H ER: Any s tandax4 button, flag, painted or raised marker, or other device located at and intending to designate the approximate center of intersection. (19) LOADING ZONE: A designated portion of the street along the curb reserved for use in loading and unloading commodities, merchandise, produce, freight or animals by commercial vehicles. (20) MARKED CROSSWALK: Any portion of a roadway distinctly indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other markings on the surface thereof. (21) MOTORCYCLE: A motor vehicle designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, but excluding a farm tractor. (22) MOToR TRUCK: Every motor vehicle designed or used: (1) for the transportation of commodities, merchandise, produce, freight or animals ; (2) for the drawing or pulling of one or more independent vehicles or trailers in the transportation of commodities, merchandise, produce, freight or animals upon a street, alley or other public place. (23) MOTOR VERICLF: Every vehicle, as herein defined, which is in itself a self-propelled unit. (24) MUFFLER: A device consisting of a series of chambers, or other mechanical designs for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and effective in reducing noise resulting tnerefrom. (25) NON-RESIDENT: Any person whose residence is outside this state and who is temporarily sojourning within this state. (26) OP_ RA`NR: Every person who is in actual physical control of a motor vehicle, as herein defined, upon a public highway, as herein defined. (27) OWNER: A person who holds the legal title of ownership of a vehicle, or in the event the vehicle is the subject of an agreement for the conditional sale or lease thereof with the right to purchase upon performance of the conditions stated in the agreement and with an immediate right of possession vested in the conditional vendee or lessee, or in the event a mortgagor of a vehicle is entitled to possession, then such conditional vendee or -3-
