• <br /> (16) HOURS OF DARKNESS: Whenever used in this ordinance <br /> shall mean the hours from one-half hour after sunset to one-half <br /> hour before sunrise, and any other time when persons or objects may <br /> not be clearly discernible at a distance of five hundred (500) feet. <br /> (17) INTEtSECTION AREA: The area embraced within the <br /> prolongation of the lateral curb lines, or, if there are no curbs, <br /> then the lateral roadway boundry lines, of two or more public <br /> highways which join one another at an angle, whether or not such <br /> highways cross one another. <br /> (18) INTERSECTION CENTER LLA H ER: Any s tandax4 button, <br /> flag, painted or raised marker, or other device located at and <br /> intending to designate the approximate center of intersection. <br /> (19) LOADING ZONE: A designated portion of the street <br /> along the curb reserved for use in loading and unloading commodities, <br /> merchandise, produce, freight or animals by commercial vehicles. <br /> (20) MARKED CROSSWALK: Any portion of a roadway distinctly <br /> indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other markings on the <br /> surface thereof. <br /> (21) MOTORCYCLE: A motor vehicle designed to travel <br /> on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, but <br /> excluding a farm tractor. <br /> (22) MOToR TRUCK: Every motor vehicle designed or <br /> used: (1) for the transportation of commodities, merchandise, <br /> produce, freight or animals ; (2) for the drawing or pulling of one <br /> or more independent vehicles or trailers in the transportation of <br /> commodities, merchandise, produce, freight or animals upon a street, <br /> alley or other public place. <br /> (23) MOTOR VERICLF: Every vehicle, as herein defined, <br /> which is in itself a self-propelled unit. <br /> (24) MUFFLER: A device consisting of a series of chambers, <br /> or other mechanical designs for the purpose of receiving exhaust <br /> gas from an internal combustion engine and effective in reducing <br /> noise resulting tnerefrom. <br /> (25) NON-RESIDENT: Any person whose residence is outside <br /> this state and who is temporarily sojourning within this state. <br /> (26) OP_ RA`NR: Every person who is in actual physical <br /> control of a motor vehicle, as herein defined, upon a public highway, <br /> as herein defined. <br /> (27) OWNER: A person who holds the legal title of <br /> ownership of a vehicle, or in the event the vehicle is the subject <br /> of an agreement for the conditional sale or lease thereof with the <br /> right to purchase upon performance of the conditions stated in the <br /> agreement and with an immediate right of possession vested in the <br /> conditional vendee or lessee, or in the event a mortgagor of a <br /> vehicle is entitled to possession, then such conditional vendee or <br /> -3- <br />
