• <br /> Section 86: UNLAWFUL TO PASS ON HILLS, CURVES Oh WHEN <br /> VIEW OBSTRUCTED. It shall be unlawful for the operator of a <br /> vehicle to pass any overtaken moving vehicle or animal near the <br /> crest of a hill or on a curve at any point unless such operator has <br /> while so passing an uninterrupted view of the roadway ahead of not <br /> less than two hundred (200) yards. <br /> Section 87: TRAFFIC LAN. S. <br /> (1) The roadway of each street and public way includ- <br /> ing the roadway at each street intersection shall be considered as <br /> divided into traffic lanes with two or more lanes on each side of <br /> the center of the roadway. the lane next to the curb or right-hand <br /> side of the roadway shall be the outside traffic lane; the lane next <br /> to the center of the highway, the inside traffic lane; and those <br /> lying between, the center traffic lanes. <br /> (2) Whenever a roadway has been divided into three <br /> or more clearly marked lanes for traffic, the following rules, in <br /> addition to all others consistent herewith, shall apply: <br /> (a) Every vehicle_ shall be operated as nearly as <br /> practicable entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved <br /> from such lane until the operator thereof has first ascertained <br /> that such movement can be made with safety; <br /> (b) The Chief of Police may erect official signs <br /> directing slow moving or any particular class of traffic to be operated <br /> in a designated lane or allocating specific -lanes to traffic moving <br /> in the same direction, and it shall be unlawful for any person oper- <br /> ating a vehicle upon the public highways of the city of Everett to <br /> disobey the directions of any sign or signs; <br /> (c) At street intersections vehicles making a <br /> right turn shall use the outside traffic lane keeping as near as <br /> practicable to the right-hand curb; vehicles making a left turn shall <br /> use the inside traffic lane ; and vehicles continuing across the <br /> intersection shall use any one of the two or more traffic lanes, <br /> keeping to the right or left, as the case may be, to facilitate <br /> traffic across the intersection; <br /> (d) In passing from one traffic lane to another, <br /> drivers shall give the proper right or left turn signal, as the <br /> case may be. <br /> Section 88: TURNING, STARTING AND STOPPING SIGNALS. It <br /> shall be the duty of every person operating a vehicle upon any public <br /> highway and intending to turn from a standstill or parked position, <br /> or while in motion intending to turn or stop, to give a timely <br /> signal from the left-hand side of such vehicle indicating the <br /> direction in which he intends to turn or that he intends to stop, as '. <br /> follows: If he intends to turn to the l ft he shall extend his arm <br /> in a horizontal position from the left side of such vehicle con- <br /> tinuously for a reasonable length of time; if he intends to turn to <br /> the right he shall extend his arm from the left sicxe of the vehicle <br /> with his forearm raised vertically continuously for a reasonable <br /> length of time; if he intends to stop he shall extend his arm from <br /> the left side of such vehicle with his forearm lowered vertically <br /> continuously for a reasonable length of time. For the purpose of <br /> this section, a reasonable length of time shall be that time required` <br /> to traverse a distance in feet equal to five times the maximum <br /> speed in miles per hour allowed by law during the approach to the <br /> point of turning or stopping. <br /> -30- <br />
