0 i Section 100: RIGHT-OF-WAY TO AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLES. Upon the immediate Epproach of any authorized emergency vehicle when the driver is giving audible signal by siren, exhaust whistle or bell, or at points where fire signals are given or when traffic control signals display the red light on all sides, the driver of every other vehicle within sight or hearing shall yield ghe right of way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to and as close as possible to the right-hand curb or edge of the public highway, clear of any intersection, and shall stop and remain : in such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a peace officer. when the operator of any vehicle is complying with the provisions of this section he shall give proper hand signal indicating his intended movement. Section 101: UNLAWFUL Tu FOLLOW FIRE APPARATUS NEARER THAN 500 FEET. It shall be unlawful for the operator of any vehicle, other than an authorized emergency vehicle on official business, to follow any fire apparatus proceeding in response to a fire alarm at a distance of less than five hundred ( 500) feet or drive or park such vehicle within two hundred (MO) feet of fire apparatus stopped in answer to a fire alarm. Section 102: CROSSING FIRE DEPART d ENT HOSE UNLAWFUL. It shall be unlawful for the operator of any vehicle to operate over any unprotected hose of a fire department when laid down on any public highway or any private road, street, way or alley. Section 103: RIGHT-OF-WAY OF EMERGENCY VEHICLES. In the order named, the following vehicles shall have the right of way over all other traffic: Vehicles and apparatus of the fire department; vehicles and motorcycles of the police department; vehicles carry- ' ing United States mail; and succeeding the foregoing when responding to emergency calls, ambulance, repair vehicles of public service companies and of the City of Everett. Provided, that vehicles of the fire department when responding to or returning from an alarm shall have the right-of-way over all other traffic. Section 104: OBSTRUCTION OT OPERATOR'S VIEW OR OF DRIVING MECHANJISM. (a) It shall be unlawful for the operator of a vehicle to drive the same when such vehicle is so enclosed, constructed or loaded, or when there are in the front seat of such vehicle such number of persons as to obstruct the view of the operator to the front, rear and/or sides, or to interfere with the operator ' s cortol over the driving mechanism of the vehicle: Provided, that such a view to the rear shall not be required when there is attached to such vehicle a mirror or other device of such kind and so placed as to enable the driver thereof to have such a clear and unobstructed view to the rear as will enable him to obey the "rules of the road" when overtaken by any other vehicle. (b) It shall be unlawful for any passengers in a vehicle or bus to ride in such position as to interfere with the operator' s view ahead, or to the sides, or so as to interfere with the operator ' s control over the driving mechanism of the vehicle or bus. (c) It shall be unlawful to operate a vehicle with more than three (3) persons in the front or driver' s seat. -33-
