0 i <br /> Section 100: RIGHT-OF-WAY TO AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY <br /> VEHICLES. Upon the immediate Epproach of any authorized emergency <br /> vehicle when the driver is giving audible signal by siren, exhaust <br /> whistle or bell, or at points where fire signals are given or when <br /> traffic control signals display the red light on all sides, the <br /> driver of every other vehicle within sight or hearing shall yield <br /> ghe right of way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel <br /> to and as close as possible to the right-hand curb or edge of the <br /> public highway, clear of any intersection, and shall stop and remain : <br /> in such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, <br /> except when otherwise directed by a peace officer. when the operator <br /> of any vehicle is complying with the provisions of this section he <br /> shall give proper hand signal indicating his intended movement. <br /> Section 101: UNLAWFUL Tu FOLLOW FIRE APPARATUS NEARER <br /> THAN 500 FEET. It shall be unlawful for the operator of any vehicle, <br /> other than an authorized emergency vehicle on official business, to <br /> follow any fire apparatus proceeding in response to a fire alarm <br /> at a distance of less than five hundred ( 500) feet or drive or park <br /> such vehicle within two hundred (MO) feet of fire apparatus stopped <br /> in answer to a fire alarm. <br /> Section 102: CROSSING FIRE DEPART d ENT HOSE UNLAWFUL. <br /> It shall be unlawful for the operator of any vehicle to operate over <br /> any unprotected hose of a fire department when laid down on any <br /> public highway or any private road, street, way or alley. <br /> Section 103: RIGHT-OF-WAY OF EMERGENCY VEHICLES. In the <br /> order named, the following vehicles shall have the right of way over <br /> all other traffic: Vehicles and apparatus of the fire department; <br /> vehicles and motorcycles of the police department; vehicles carry- <br /> ' ing United States mail; and succeeding the foregoing when responding <br /> to emergency calls, ambulance, repair vehicles of public service <br /> companies and of the City of Everett. Provided, that vehicles of <br /> the fire department when responding to or returning from an alarm <br /> shall have the right-of-way over all other traffic. <br /> Section 104: OBSTRUCTION OT OPERATOR'S VIEW OR OF <br /> DRIVING MECHANJISM. <br /> (a) It shall be unlawful for the operator of a vehicle <br /> to drive the same when such vehicle is so enclosed, constructed or <br /> loaded, or when there are in the front seat of such vehicle such <br /> number of persons as to obstruct the view of the operator to the <br /> front, rear and/or sides, or to interfere with the operator ' s cortol <br /> over the driving mechanism of the vehicle: Provided, that such a <br /> view to the rear shall not be required when there is attached to such <br /> vehicle a mirror or other device of such kind and so placed as to <br /> enable the driver thereof to have such a clear and unobstructed view <br /> to the rear as will enable him to obey the "rules of the road" when <br /> overtaken by any other vehicle. <br /> (b) It shall be unlawful for any passengers in a vehicle <br /> or bus to ride in such position as to interfere with the operator' s <br /> view ahead, or to the sides, or so as to interfere with the <br /> operator ' s control over the driving mechanism of the vehicle or bus. <br /> (c) It shall be unlawful to operate a vehicle with more <br /> than three (3) persons in the front or driver' s seat. <br /> -33- <br />
