♦ . a <br /> • <br /> • <br /> (41) SAFETY LONE: The area or space officially set apart <br /> within a roadway for the exclusive use of pedestrians- and which is <br /> protected or is marked or indicated by painted marks, signs, buttons, <br /> standards or otherwise, so as to be plainly discernible. <br /> (42) SCHOOL BUS: Any motor vehicle, as herein defined, <br /> owned by a public or governmental agency and operated for the <br /> transportation of children to or from school or school activities <br /> or privately owned and operated for compensation for the transportation <br /> of children to or from school or school activities. <br /> (43) SHIJMI-TRAILER: Every vehicle without motive power <br /> designed to be drawn by a motor vehicle or truck tractor and so <br /> constructed that an appreciable part of its weight and that of its <br /> load rests upon and is carried by such motor vehicle or truck <br /> tractor . <br /> (44) SIDEWALK: That property between the curb lines or <br /> lateral lines of a toadway, as herein defined, and the adjacent <br /> property, set aside and intended for the use of pedestrians or such <br /> portion of private property parallel and in proximity to a public <br /> highway and dedicated to use by pedestrians. <br /> (45) STAND: That portion of a street set aside and <br /> properly marked as a place where vehicles used for the carriage <br /> of freight, baggage, merchandise, or passengers for hire may lawfully <br /> park while awaiting employment. <br /> (46) STOP: When required, means complete cessation of <br /> movement. <br /> (47) STOP or STOPPING: When prohibited, means any <br /> stopping of a vehicle except when necessary to avoid conflict with <br /> other traffic or in compliance with the direction of a police <br /> officer or traffic control sign or signal. <br /> (48) STREET: All or any portion of the public highway <br /> and other places in the city open to the public for travel, with the <br /> exception of alleys. <br /> (49) SUSPEND: In all its forms shall mean invalidation <br /> for any period less than one calendar year and thereafter until <br /> reinstatement. <br /> (50) TAXICAB: A motor vehicle used for the carriage <br /> of passengers for hire. <br /> (51) TRAFFIC : Pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, <br /> vehicles, and other conveyances, either singly or together while <br /> using any public highways for purpose of travel. <br /> (52) TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL: Any traffic device, as <br /> herein defined, whether manually, electrically or mechanically <br /> operated, by which traffic alternately is directed to stop or <br /> proceed, or otherwise controlled. <br /> -5- <br />
