• <br /> section 8: EXEMPTIONS TO AUTHORIZED EiviEhGE:\CY VEHICLES. <br /> The provisions of this ordinance shall be applicable to the <br /> operation of any and all vehicles upon the public highways of the <br /> City of Everett except that tney shallnot apply in the following <br /> cases: <br /> (a) To any authorized emergency vehicle properly equipped <br /> as required by law and actually responding to an emergency call or <br /> in immediate pursuit of an actual or suspected violator of the law, <br /> within the purpose for which such emergency vehicle has been author- <br /> i4ed. Provided, that the provisions of this act shall not relieve <br /> the operator of an authorized vehicle of the duty to operate with due <br /> regard for the safety of all persons using the public highway, nor <br /> shall it protect the driver of any such vehicle from the consequences <br /> of his reckless disregard for the safety of others. Provided, further, <br /> the provisions of this section shall in no event extend any special <br /> privilege or immunity in operation of an authorized emergency vehicle <br /> for any purpose other than that for which the same has been author- <br /> ized. <br /> (b) To any persons, teams, vehicles or other equipment <br /> while actually engaged in authorized work upon the surface of a <br /> public highway in so far as suspension of the provisions of this act <br /> are reasonably necessary for the carrying on of such work, and <br /> provided reasonable precautions are taken to apprise and protect the <br /> users of such public highway, but such provisions shall apply to <br /> such persons, teams, vehicles and other equipment when traveling to <br /> and from such work. <br /> (c) To any persons, vehicles or otherwise, in so far as <br /> the same may be specifically exempted from any provisions of this <br /> ordinance. <br /> Section 9: OBEDIEiqC.L TO POLICE. It shall be unlawful <br /> for any person while operating or in charge of any vehicle to refuse <br /> when requested by a peace officer to give his name and addressand <br /> the name and address of the owner of such vehicle, or for such person <br /> to give a false name and address, and it shall likewise be unlawful <br /> for any such person to refuse and neglect to stop when signalled to <br /> stop by any peace officer or to refuse upon demand of such peace <br /> officer to produce his certificate of license registration or his <br /> vehicle operator ' s license or to refuse to permit such officer to <br /> take any such license or certificate for the purpose of examination <br /> thereof, or to refuse to permit the examination of any equipment of <br /> such vehicle or the weighing of such vehicle or to refuse or neglect <br /> to produce the certificate of license registration of such vehicle <br /> or his vehicle operator ' s license when requested by any court. <br /> Section 10: SCHOOL PATROL AUTHbRITY. The L'hief of <br /> Police is hereby authorized and directed to cooperate with the <br /> superintendent of schools, the school board and other school officials <br /> in supervising the establishment, organization, training and operation <br /> of the school patrol in the city of Everett as authorized by Section <br /> 130, Chapter 189, Laws of 1937. <br /> The members of such school patrol shall wear a badge or <br /> other appropriate insignia marked "school patrol" when in pvformance <br /> of their duties, and they are hereby authorized to display stop" <br /> or other proper traffic directional signs or signals at school <br /> crossing or other points where school children are crossing or about <br /> to cross a public highway, but such members of the school patrol <br /> shall be subject to and obey the order of any peace officer present <br /> nd having jurisdiction. <br /> -8- <br />
