` I •
Mr.Drew Martin
City of Everett Planning and Public Works
March 12,2019
File No.262018.055
Page 2
proposed project appears to include the following work: Repairs (Chapter 6).
Additional and alternative types of work required for the project shall be identified
by the designer-of-record. Additional comments may be pending. See IBC
Sections 301.1 and 502.1.
Response: General notes on Sheet S0.0 has been updated with a reference to
the IEBC.
3. The structural drawings include work that has been deferred by the engineer-of-
record(EOR). A statement of deferred submittals is provided in the"General"
section of the General Structural Notes on Sheet S0.0. The statement shall specify
that the EOR is required to review the deferred submittals and verify conformance
with the construction documents. See IBC Sections 107.2.1, 107.3.4, 107.3.4.1,
and 107.4. The following shall be added to the list of deferred submittals:
a. Temporary shoring.
Response: Temporary restraints for the existing structure during the
installation on connections per Detail 20/S.10 will be contractor's means and
method. Contractor's engineer to ensure the stability of temporary shoring
during constructions. The loads associated with this are minor and Reid
Middleton does not expect to review temporary restraints.
4. The notes for the FRP System provided in the General Structural Notes on Sheet
S0.0 appear to have been prepared for another project. For example, the "Design
Strength"paragraph under the"Renovation" section states that FRP system shall be
designed per the criteria in the"wall/beam elevations", which do not appear to be
provided or required in this project. The notes should be reviewed and revised as
needed. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
Response: General notes have been updated.
Gravity System:
5. Detail 19/S.10 specifies individual repairs for both the concrete columns and
prestressed girder ends. It is unclear if the proposed work is repairing structural
damage or is intended to prevent future damage. If the former, structural
calculations substantiating the proposed repair shall be submitted for review. See
IEBC Section 606.2.3 and IBC Section 1604.1.
Response: Detail 19/S.10 is Detail 14/S.10 in the re-submittal drawings. The
proposed work is intended to address hairline cracks on concrete column and.
girder. Supplementary FRP wrap is provided to prevent potential future
damage. Although the capacity is not believed to be impaired in the current
2. I £ Reid iddleton
