General. Prior to the production of HMA, the Contractor shall determine a design <br /> 16 aggregate structure and asphalt binder content in accordance with WSDOT Standard <br /> 17 Operating Procedure 732. Once the design aggregate structure and asphalt binder <br /> I 18 content have been determined, the Contractor shall submit the HMA mix design on <br /> 19 DOT form 350-042 demonstrating the design meets the requirements of Sections 9- <br /> 20 03.8(2) and 9-03.8(6). HMA accepted by nonstatistical evaluation requires a mix <br /> I 21 design verification. For HMA accepted by commercial evaluation only the first page <br /> 22 of DOT form 350-042 and the percent of asphalt binder is required. In no case shall <br /> 23 the paving begin before the determination of anti-strip requirements has been made. <br /> I24 25 Anti-strip requirements will be determined by: <br /> 26 a. Testing by WSDOT in accordance with TM 718. <br /> 27 b. Testing by Contractor in accordance with WSDOT TM 718. <br /> I28 29 c. Historical aggregate source ant-strip use provided by WSDOT. <br /> 30 The mix design will be the initial Job Mix Formula (JMF)for the HMA being produced. <br /> 1 31 Any additional adjustments to the JMF will require the approval of the Project <br /> 32 Engineer and may be made per Section 9-03.8(7). <br /> 33 <br /> I 34 2. Mix Design Verification. Verification shall be accomplished by one of the following <br /> 35 processes: <br /> 36 <br /> II 37 a. Submit samples to WSDOT State Materials Lab for WSDOT verification <br /> 38 testing in accordance with WSDOT Standard Specifications. <br /> 39 b. The contracting agency will perform tests to verify the mix design in <br /> 40 accordance with the Field Verification Testing Process. <br /> I 41 c. Reference a mix design that has been previously verified by the Field <br /> 42 Verification Testing Process or verified by WSDOT State Materials Lab <br /> 43 on a previous project. <br /> I44 d. Perform Field Verification Testing on a sample of HMA provided by the <br /> 45 Contractor prior to paving. <br /> 46 <br /> I 47 Mix design verification is valid for one year from the date of verification.
