Mulch: add minimum of one -inch -deep mulch. Apply only after leaves and debris have been cleared in <br />order to minimize diseases. Use a mulch that will provide soil and plant nutrients as well as weed control. <br />As much as possible, use garden composts or garden mulches rather than red bark. <br />The mulch shall be consistent with current mulch in place, and consistent in nature. The product shall be <br />free of sand, dirt, gravel, or any other material inconsistent with the purpose of mulch. Existing mulched <br />beds shall be maintained at a minimum mulch depth of two (2) inches, and a maximum mulch depth of <br />three (3) inches. <br />Raking: removing fall and other seasonal leaves from property sites as necessary. <br />Ground cover trim: ground cover will be trimmed or sheared at the edge of hard surfaces and beds will be <br />trimmed to prevent encroachment into lawn, shrubs, or trees. <br />Shrub pruning and shaping: all shrubs will be limbed up off the ground in order to prevent litter and <br />debris build-up around plant material. Broadleaf shrubs require shearing to obtain the appearance of a <br />well -trimmed site. Avoid excessive pruning of shrubs into boxed edges or balls. Pruning shall be <br />performed in accordance with the species growth habit. <br />Trash patrol: remove all trash and landscaping debris resulting from landscaping services during each site <br />visit. <br />Tree maintenance: any tree limbs obstructing walkways, driveways, or considered hazardous shall be <br />removed immediately. Deciduous trees will be pruned for shape and health during the dormant season. <br />Conifers are typically pruned in late summer through fall. Lower limbs shall be removed to allow clearance <br />as dictated by required overhead clearance according to Public Works Pruning Clearance standards. <br />Pruning shall be done following ANSI A300 Pruning Standards, approved by ISA, and accordance with the <br />species growth habit. <br />2.9 PRE- AND POST -EMERGENT HERBICIDE APPLICATIONS <br />Pre -emergent applications shall be conducted twice a year in an effort to be pre -active and minimize <br />seasonal weed infestation. Pre -emergent chemicals may only be used on sites with at least two (2) years <br />of plant establishment. Apply only at the manufacturer's approved rates to avoid soil toxicity. The <br />herbicide must be verified to ensure it is appropriate for use with various plant materials. <br />Post -emergent applications shall be systemic herbicides rather than contact herbicides as much as <br />possible when herbicides are applied. Roundup is preferred when possible. Avoid damage to other plants <br />and follow other state regulations and product labels. (Spray application) <br />2.10 LEAF REMOVAL <br />Curbs, parking lots, catch basins, and sidewalks shall be cleaned of all leaves, debris, dirt, and needles. <br />Leaf raking of all site exteriors, paved lots and sidewalks, graveled or bare dirt areas, established bed <br />areas, and grass areas shall be accomplished during the season to leave such areas clean prior to the <br />winter months. All debris shall be removed from the property and properly disposed of by the Contractor. <br />
