• <br /> • <br /> • <br /> (a) Only such gravity oil burners as have been in- <br /> spected and approved by the Fire Chief as elsewhere herein pro- <br /> vided, shall be offered for sale , installed or used within the <br /> City of Everett, Washington. <br /> (b ) The Fire chief may reject or disapprove any <br /> gravity oil burner which is not provided with adequate safe- <br /> guards against fire or explosion or which is otherwise unsafe <br /> for use within the city limits of Everett . <br /> (c ) The recommendations and regulations pertaining <br /> to oil burners of the gravity type for installation in stoves, <br /> ranges and other heating devices as provided , from time to time , <br /> by the National Board of Fire Underwriters, and the standards of <br /> construction as promulgated by Underwriters' Laboratories, <br /> or by any other organization of equivalent standing properly <br /> equipped and qualified for experimental testing, may be accepted. <br /> by the Fire Chief as prima facie evidence that any gravity oil <br /> burner complying with such regulations is safe for use within <br /> the City of Everett and the Fire Chief may, at his discretion, <br /> permit the installation and use of any such gravity oil burner, <br /> subject to the special provisions herein provided. <br /> (d) No gravity oil burner having an oil supply tank <br /> of a capacity exceeding Twelve (12) gallons, shall be installed <br /> or used in any portion of a building used for the purpose of <br /> a hotel, apartment house or assembly hall, or a rooming house , <br /> boarding house , school, theater, church, department store , <br /> or a place of refuge or detention, or in any portion of a water- <br /> front building extending over the waters of Everett harbor or <br /> river. <br /> (e ) No gravity oil tank shall have an oil capacity <br /> in excess of Two Hundred Fifty (250 ) gallons when installed as <br /> an integral part of a gravity supply tank system. <br /> ( f) Storage tanks shall be equipped with an open ven' <br /> extending from and above top of tank and provided with a return <br /> elbow. Vent openings and vent pipes shall be of ample size to <br /> prevent abnormal pressure in the tank during filling, but shall <br /> not be smaller than one inch pipe size, and proportionately <br /> larger for correspondingly larger supply tanks. Vent pipes <br /> shall be connected to the top of the tank and shall not extend <br /> through the top of the tank for a distance of more than one <br /> inch. <br /> (g) No oil burner connected to a gravity oil tank <br /> having a capacity in excess of Twelve (12 ) gallons shall be <br /> located above the lowest story of the building in which installed, <br /> or be less than Ten (10 ) feet from any stove , furnace , boiler <br /> or other heating or heat radiating device . When the capacity <br /> of the gravity oil tank does not exceed Twelve (12) gallons, <br /> such tank may be located not less than Three (3) feet from such <br /> -4- <br />
