Every oil burner shall be designed, installed and <br /> maintained so as to prevent any oil particles from impinging <br /> and burning directly on any steam or water boilers or other <br /> metal heating surface of a heating system subject to pressure. <br /> Section 10: Every oil burner used in connection with <br /> water, steam or warm air heating systems, or in any stove, range <br /> or heater, shall be provided with an approved automatic shut-off <br /> that will effectively and quickly stop the flow of oil from the <br /> storage or supply tank to the fire box in case the burner flame <br /> should be extinguished or oil should accumulate in the fire box. <br /> Every oil burner shall be provided with an oil shut-off <br /> valve installed near the burner. <br /> Where oil regulating valves are used in connection wit • <br /> oil burners, they shall be of approved type , provided with a <br /> stuffing box of liberal size, containing a removal cupped gland <br /> designed to compress the packing against the valve stem and <br /> arranged so as to facilitate removal. The valves shall be <br /> designed to close against oil supply and to prevent withdrawal <br /> of steam by continued operation of the hand wheel or handhold. <br /> The use of packing affected by the oil fuel is prohibited. <br /> Section 11: Every automatic oil burner used in <br /> connection with hot water, steam orvarm air heating systems <br /> shall be equipped with an automatic device to reduce or <br /> extinguish the fire in event of undue pressure or over-heating <br /> within the boiler or furnace. <br /> Oil burners subject to automatic ignition shall be <br /> provided with a permanent automatic device , so designed that <br /> all oil upon being turned into the combustion chamber, will <br /> quickly become ignited or shut off. <br /> All automatic devices shall be constructed of proper <br /> strength and materials to minimize the liability to failure, <br /> breakage or other accident or injury, and every automatic <br /> controlling or protective device shall be provided with sub- <br /> stantial means for manually testing same to ascertain its <br /> proper operating condition. <br /> Section 12: Burners containing chambers which allow <br /> a dangerous accumulation of gases, or containing oil conveying <br /> pipes or parts subject to intense heat, are prohibited. <br /> Burners shall be designed so that they can be easily <br /> cleaned and so as to minimize the possibility of oil leakage. <br /> -9- <br />
