Project summary statement: Staff requests authorization to call for bids for the Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) Trickling Filter Influent (TFI) Bar Screen Upgrades project. The TFI Bar Screen vault serves two purposes. The east chamber houses a mechanical bar screen to remove debris from the trickling filter influent coming from the aerated lagoons. The west chamber is used as a critical flow control structure which diverts a portion of the secondary clarifier effluent back to the aerated lagoons. The design has been completed for upgrades to the existing vault including the creation of a bypass around the existing bar screen chamber to accommodate maintenance without shutting the mechanical plant down, and modifications to the effluent diversion chamber to provide improved reliability of the diversion controls. The Engineers estimate for construction of this project is $1,700,000. Recommendation (exact action requested of Council): Authorize a Call for Bids for the completion of the WPCF TFI Bar Screen Upgrades project.
