I 3 4 Utility appurtenance adjustment discussions will be included in the Pre-Paving planning I 5 (5-04.3(14)B3). Submit a written request to waive this requirement to the Engineer prior 6 to the start of paving. 7 8 5-04.3(14) Planing (Milling) Bituminous Pavement 9 The Contractor shall call for locates before planing any HMA pavement. Any induction 10 loop vehicle detectors which are within the planing area shall be discussed with the I 11 inspector prior to planing to see if the planing limits can be modified to save the loops. 12 Any loops which are damaged in the planing process shall be replaced prior to the final 13 overlay. The electrical subcontractor shall be on-call and the loops shall be replaced 14 within 5 working days of the planing operation and paved within 3 working days of the I 15 loop installation. See Section 8-20 of the Specifications for details on loop installation 16 and payment. 17 I 18 Planing shall be performed in such a manner that the underlying pavement is not torn, 19 broken, or otherwise damaged by the planing operation. The surface of the underlying 20 pavement shall be slightly grooved or roughened sufficiently to ensure a bond when I 21 overlaid. All areas to be ground shall be completed with a grinder. The use of other 22 methods must be approved by the Engineer. 23 I 24 If, after planing a thin veneer layer remains, the contractor shall replane the roadway as 25 directed by the Engineer, paid under"Additional Planing Bituminous Pavement". The 26 Contractor shall adjust their schedule at no additional cost to the owner. I 27 28 The planings shall become the property of the Contractor and shall be removed from the 29 right-of-way. The planings may be utilized as RAP, within the requirements of Section 5- 30 04.2 or 9-03.21. The Contractor shall immediately dispose of all other debris resulting I 31 from the planing operation in a Contractor-provided site off the right-of-way. 32 33 Immediately after grinding, the Contractor shall construct an asphalt transition 34 (temporary paper joints or ramps), on all traveled ways, wheel chair ramps, and exposed 35 manholes, inlets, catch basins, monuments, valve boxes, and other structures on the 36 street, regardless of depth in grinding. Asphalt transition must be removed prior to I 37 overlay. Cast iron structures left higher than 2" must be removed and steel plates 38 installed to protect the opening and provide a suitable driving surface. 39 40 Sweeping of roadway surface shall immediately follow all grinding. Sweeping of roadway 41 surface is required prior to tack placement and paving. 42 43 The road shall be overlayed within 3 working days after planing operation for streets 44 without loops.
