I <br /> 1 4. Loops shall not be installed in rainy weather or at temperatures below <br /> I 2 40°. <br /> 3 5. Loops shall be placed in the sawcut in a clockwise direction. <br /> 4 6. The loop sealant shall be applied in accordance with the manufacturer's <br /> 5 recommendations. <br /> 6 7. Detector loop wire shall use 14 AWG stranded copper conductors, and <br /> 7 shall conform to IMSA Specification 51-7, with cross-linked polyethylene <br /> I <br /> 8 9 (XLPE) insulation encased in a polyethylene outer jacket (PE tube). <br /> 8. The area around the conduit stub-out shall be patched with hot mix <br /> 10 asphalt concrete if it is greater than 2" in width. <br /> 11 9. The sawcuts shall be of uniform depth and any sharp edges, abrasions <br /> 12 or ridges shall be removed prior to placing the wire. <br /> 13 10. The sawcut depth shall be a minimum of 3'/2" and shall provide a <br /> I 14 minimum of 2" cover above the loop wires. <br /> 15 11. The sawcut width shall be a minimum of 1/4"for the loop and 3/8"for the <br /> 16 home run. <br /> 17 12. The sawcut shall be cleaned out with a high pressure water stream and <br /> I18 then dried with compressed air prior to placing the wire. <br /> 19 13. All splices between the loop wire and the loop lead-in cable shall be <br /> 20 soldered and utilize a splice kit in conformance with Standard Drawing <br /> I 21 809. <br /> 22 14. When the roadway is to be overlaid as a part of the project, the loops <br /> 23 shall be installed prior to the final overlay. <br /> I 24 15. Circular loops are standard installations. Where shown in the Plans, the <br /> 25 contractor shall install quadrupole loops at stop lines due to stub-out <br /> 26 diameter. At locations where quadrupole loops are shown and adequate <br /> I 27 stub-out diameter exists, round loops may be substituted for quadrupole <br /> 28 loops. <br /> 29 <br /> I 30 <br /> 31 Existing Traffic Loops <br /> 32 <br /> 33 The Contractor shall notify the Area Traffic Engineer through the Engineer a <br /> 34 minimum of five (5) working days in advance of pavement removal or grinding <br /> 35 in areas with existing loops. <br /> 36 <br /> I 37 If the Engineer suspects that damage to any loop, not identified in the Plans as <br /> 38 being replaced, may have resulted from Contractor's operations or is not <br /> 39 operating adequately, the Engineer may order the Contractor to perform the field <br /> I 40 tests specified in Section 8 20.3(14)D. The test results shall be recorded and <br /> 41 submitted to the Engineer. Loops that fail any of these tests shall be replaced. <br /> 42 <br /> I 43 Loops that fail the tests, as described above, and are replaced shall be installed <br /> 44 in accordance with current City of Everett design standards and Standard <br /> 45 Drawings, as determined by the Engineer. <br /> 46 <br /> I47 If traffic signal loops that fail the tests, as described above, are not replaced and <br /> 48 operational within 5 working days, the Contractor shall install and maintain <br /> 49 interim video detection until the replacement loops are operational.
