Topsoil shall be on-site or imported material that conform with Section 8-02.3(4) of the <br /> WSDOT Standard Specifications. <br /> 2.4 GRAVEL BACKFILL FOR PIPE ZONE BEDDING <br /> A. Gravel backfill for pipe zone bedding shall conform with Section 9-03.12(3) of the <br /> WSDOT Standard Specifications. <br /> 2.5 SAND <br /> A. Sand shall conform with Section 9-03.13 of the WSDOT Standard Specifications. <br /> 2.6 GRAVEL BACKFILL FOR WALLS <br /> A. Gravel backfill for walls shall conform to Section 9-03.12(2) of the WSDOT Standard <br /> Specifications. <br /> 2.7 GRAVEL BACKFILL FOR DRAINS <br /> A. Gravel backfill for drains shall conform to Section 9-03.12(4) of the WSDOT Standard <br /> Specifications. <br /> 2.8 QUARRY SPALLS <br /> A. Quarry spalls shall be crushed quarry rock. Spalls shall be hard, sound and <br /> unweathered. Quarry spalls shall meet the following gradation requirements: <br /> Sieve Size Percent Passing <br /> 6-inch 100 <br /> 3-inch 40 max. <br /> 3/4-inch 10 max. <br /> 2.9 CONTROLLED DENSITY FILL (CDF) <br /> A. CDF shall conform to section 2-09.3(1)E of the WSDOT Standard Specifications. <br /> PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> 3.1 EXCAVATION <br /> A. Unauthorized excavation consists of removal of materials beyond indicated subgrade <br /> elevations or dimensions without specific direction of the Owner's Representative. <br /> Unauthorized excavation, as well as remedial work directed by the Owner's <br /> Representative, shall be at no change in contract amount. <br /> 1. Under footings, foundation bases, or retaining walls, fill unauthorized excavation with <br /> CDF or lean mix concrete. The bottom width of the excavation shall be defined by a <br /> line extending downward and out from the outer edge of the footing at an angle of <br /> 1H:1V. <br /> 31 00 00 - 2 EARTHWORK <br />
