• S
Mr. Art Skotdal
Skotdal Real Estate
Plan Check Number: B1906-031, Second Building Review- Structural
October 18, 2019
i. Calculations substantiating the design shall be submitted for review. The
calculations shall include, but are not limited to, the flexural and shear strength of
the slab.
ii. Calculations substantiating the shear connection between the slab and the
supporting beams and other framing.
iii. Details for the connections of the slab to the supporting framing. This is not
provided in Section 1/S3.00.
iv. The supplemental calculations for the design of the beams on Grids 4 and 4.9
considering torsional effects. Note that the beam on Grid 4.9 has both the loading
and supports on located on opposite faces and eccentric from the beam centerline.
e. Grid F.6-G/4.7-5 on Sheet S2.03. See the previous comment. Note that this area appears
to be stairway per Partial Plan 5/A7.2.
f. Grid E-F/3-3.2 on Sheet S2.01. This area is included in the PT-design calculations, and is
shown with post-tensioning, but the slab area is not shown in the drawings.
g. Grid E-F/3-3.2 on Sheet S2.09. Verify if post-tensioning should extend through this area.
20. No additional comment.
21. No additional comment.
22. No additional comment.
23.This comment has not been addressed. The original comment is provided below. The response
is not adequate to address the comment. Sheet A-2.2a shows the required step; the structural
drawings should be consistent and indicate slopes where required. The structural calculations
should match the step height as this is the critical condition and represents the effective
member depths that the prestressed tendons must pass through; it is presumed that the slope
is incidental to the design.
The design of the Level 1 slab is shown on Sheets S2.06, 2.07, and A-2.2a. See IBC Section
107.2.1, 1603.1, and 1604.1. The following comments shall be addressed:
a. Sheet S2.06 appears to show an 8-inch thick depressed slab area between Grids A-B.3 with
a uniform 6-inch step down from east to west. However, Sheet A-2.2a shows typically
shows a 4-inch step, except between Grids 6.4-8 where the step is 3-inches. The drawings
shall be revised for consistency.
b. Continuing with the previous comment, the structural calculations have been performed
considering a 6-inch step. The design shall be revised as needed pending the determination
of the correct step heights.
c. The structural calculations appear to be indicating that the Level 1 PT slab includes a 14-
inch thick region between Grids A and D. This is not indicated in the Plans on Sheets S2.06
and S2.07. It appears a step is indicated for a portion of this area on Sheet S2.06; an
unknown solid line is obscuring the potential step extent. The note at Grid A-D/1-4
indicates the slab is only 8 inches thick. The plans shall be revised, or the calculations shall
be revised for consistency with the plans.
O3200 Cedar Street © 425.257.8810 0 everetteps@everettwa.gov
Everett,WA 98201 425.257.8857 fax everettwa.gCi;age
ov/permits
7of11
