r ' r 0 •S
~`` a s s o c i a t e d s//o4 ,L`(/ ,
earth sciences
/ 47
August 6, 2019
Project No. 190168E001
City of Everett
3200 Cedar Street
Everett, WA 98201
ATTN: Mr. Drew Martin
RE: Marquee Apartments Everett Shoring
2721 Wetmore Avenue, Everett WA
COE #PW1907-055
Response to First Building Review—Shoring.
Dear Mr. Martin:
As requested, Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. (AESI) has prepared a response to the Correction
Notice #1 dated August 2, 2019. The comments from the City reviewer are followed by a
response from the geotechnical engineer and are based upon the information obtained from
the original study. It should be noted that the Figure 3 included in the report tat was submitted
is not correct. The correct Figure 3 is attached to this letter and referenced in the following
responses.
1. The soil parameters given in section 13.1 of the geotechnical report dated May 28, 2019
were used in the design of the soil nail wall which is the standard for soil nail wall
design. The reference to the pressure diagram in the report is for design guidance to
the external loadings that may apply in the given situations. We have reviewed the
calculations for the sail nail wall and the parameters of the design are consistent with
that given in the geotechnical report. vk
2. As noted in the previous response the soil parameters given in the geotechnical report
are what was used in the calculations for soil nail wall design. The reference to Figure 3
is for surcharge loading including live loads and the sloping backfill. (-1=-
3. As noted previously Figure 3 is included in the recommendations for the design of a soil
nail wall to indicate the external loadings such as the traffic surcharge. The soil nail wall
design has included a vertical loading for a traffic surcharge of 250 psf, and a 500 psf
load for construction traffic. The loadings also include building loads for the adjacent
properties. All these loadings are suitable for design. Q\t
4. The 250 psf surcharge included in the Figure 4 and section 13.2 is a traffic loading. This
is translated to a horizontal loading of 75 psf over the top 10 feet in the diagram.
