2. Ifthere is threat of further exposure to hazardous material, enter only if you can do so safely, <br />remove all injured persons, if possible, and leave the immediate vicinity. If there is no threat of <br />further idu ry or exposure, leave seriously injured personnel where they are. <br />3. Proceed with first ad or attempt to control the incident only if you can do so safely and have <br />been trained in first aid or the emergency response necessary to control the incident. Show <br />the ranking emergency -response officer where the incident occurred, provide any other <br />information that will help avoid injuries, and do as he or she requests. <br />4. f the emergency appears in any aspect to be serious or Ife threateni ng, dial 911 or instruct <br />someone to do so and request paramedics be sent to the site as soon as possible. <br />5. Stay calm. If paramedics are on the way, arrange for an employee to meet them on the street <br />to direct them to the appropriate location. <br />Good Samaritan Kits I Exposure to Blood <br />A Good Samaritan Kit should be used when administering firstat when the likelihood of a <br />worker's exposure to blood or other infectious materials is present. All blood is to be treated as <br />infectious.A Good Samaritan Kit is located in each first aid kit. The following equipment will be <br />available in the kit: <br />• Latex gloves <br />• Antimicrobial wipes <br />• Hazardous waste disposal bag <br />Wash hands after removing gloves or as soon as possible after contact with body fluids. All <br />protective equipment (eye protection, gloves, exposed clothing, etc.) should be removed <br />immediately, or as soon as possible upon leaving the exposure area, and placed in an <br />appropriately designated area for storage, washing, decontamination or disposal. <br />An employee must report thefull particulars of an incident, including potential exposures while <br />acting voluntariy as a "Good Samaritan", to their supervisor. <br />Once an exposure has been reported, the exposed employeewill receive an immediate <br />confidential medical evaluation and follow-up treatment as needed. The medical evaluation should <br />be initiated immediately and the source individual's blood should betested for pathogens <br />immediately, iftheywill grant permission. Some drugs usedto prevent HIV or other infections <br />must be started as soon as possible after the exposure to be effective. Harborview Medical Center <br />is the Seattle area's only post exposure treatment facility. h any case, Teknotherm will make an <br />HBVvaccination availal�b to the exposed employee within 24 hours of the incident. HBV vaccines <br />are available at the county health department. Any exposure will be investigated in an attempt to <br />eliminate the incident from occurring again. <br />Accident Investigation <br />Preliminary investigation is conducted to evaluate the facts relating to the cause of the incident by <br />the following people: <br />A person designated by the employer <br />The immediate supervisor of the injured employee <br />Witnesses <br />
