( c ) the recommendations and regulations per- <br /> taining to oil burning stoves, as provided from time to time <br /> by the National Board of eire enderwriters, and the standards <br /> of construction as promulgated by 'underwriters' laboratories <br /> or by any other organization of equivalent standing, -properly <br /> equipped and qualified for experimental testing, may be <br /> accepted by the . ire ehief as prima facie evidence that any <br /> oil burning stove complying with such regulations is safe <br /> for use within the pity of -verett _and the wire chief may in <br /> his discretion permit, the sale and use of any such oil burn- <br /> ing stove, subject to the special provisions herein provided. <br /> ( d) rhe oil reservoir supplying oil to the <br /> burner in oil burning stoves shall have a capacity not exceed- <br /> in i'welve ( 12 ) gallons . Oil reservoirs shall be sub- <br /> stantially constructed of metal and shall be firmly supported <br /> and secured against overturning. =o such oil reservoir <br /> • shall be located more than thirty-six (36) inches above the <br /> level of -the oil burner to which it is connected. <br /> ( e ) No glass bottle oil s upely container or <br /> • gravity tank of the vacuum feed type shall have a capacity <br /> in excess of rhree ( 3) gallons, nor shall more than two <br /> ( 2) such oil containers or tanks be connected to a single <br /> heating unit . <br /> ( f) Gravity oil tanks used in connection with <br /> oil burning stoves shall be constructed, installed and main- <br /> tained as hereinbefore provided, for oil tanks used in <br /> connection with gravity oil burners, except as otherwise <br /> permitted in this section. <br /> (g) every oil burning stove shall be provided . <br /> with an automatic safeguard to prevent flooding of the burner, <br /> as elsewhere provided for gravity oil burners. <br /> (h) Oil gauges on oil reservoirs and oil <br /> supply tank:, and dampers in smokepipes between oil burning <br /> stoves and chimneys, shall comply with the requirements <br /> elsewhere provided for gravity oil burners. <br /> ( i ) she provisions of this ordinance limit- <br /> ing the installation and/or use of gravity oil burners to <br /> the lowest story of a building and restricting such installa- <br /> tion or use in premises of a specifically mentioned occupancy, <br /> shall apply equally to oil burning stoves. <br /> Section 7 : Every oil storage or supply tank <br /> connected to an oil burner and having an oil storage <br /> capacity of more than '2wo Hundred (200) gallons, shall be <br /> constructed, installed and maintained in accordance with <br /> the provisions of the ordinance relating to underground tanks <br /> for the storage of flammable liquids. eil fuel shall be <br /> delivered. from such tanks to oil burners by pumping only. <br /> Where underground tanks used for the storage of <br /> fuel oil in connection with oil burners are located so that <br /> the top of the tank is above the level of the suction inlet <br /> of the pump supplying the oil to the oil burner or burner <br /> assembly, a syphon-breaking device consisting of an <br /> anti-syphoning valve, a vacuum tank, Underwriters ' vacuum <br /> syphon breaker or equivalent device satisfactory to the <br /> -6- <br />
