Fire Chief for the prevention of syphoning, shall be installed <br /> at the highest point of the suction pipe line. <br /> Vihere oil fuel is delivered to an oil burner by <br /> means of a pump, an overflow or return pipe shall be provided <br /> between the pump and the tank, which pipe shall be not less than <br /> the diameter of the supply pipe , provided that an overflow pipe <br /> may be waived by the j'ire chief for vacuum type oil burning <br /> systems. <br /> Section 8: No measuring gauge or other device <br /> constructed wholly or partly of glass, shall be connected <br /> to the pressure side of an oil pump, nor be connected to the <br /> suction side of any oil pump below the elevation of the top <br /> of the oil storage or supply tank to which connected . <br /> All piping used in connection with any oil burn- <br /> ing equipment shall be so installed as not to be subjected to <br /> mechanical injury; shall not be concealed in walls, <br /> partitions or ceilings, and shall be run from tanks to <br /> burners by the most direct route. <br /> No piping connecting any oil burner with any fuel <br /> storage or supply tank shall be installed where they will be <br /> exposed to the heat of a fire box. <br /> Section 9: Combustible floors under furnaces <br /> or boilers containing oil burners shall be covered with two <br /> ( 2) inches of concrete covered with six (6) inch hollow tile <br /> which in turn shall be covered with a good quality fire brick <br /> laid in fire clay. the floor covering shalt extend beyond the <br /> sides and ends of the boilers and furnaces, and. the hollow <br /> tile shall be so laid that there is a continuous circulation <br /> of air through same. <br /> Every fire box containing an oil burner shall <br /> be provided with an inspection opening, not less than _°wo ( 2) <br /> inches in diameter and so located that the fire box may be <br /> readily inspected when the burner is in use . Inspection <br /> opening shall be provided with covers. <br /> Every oil burner shall be designed, installed and <br /> maintained so as to prevent any oil particles from impinging <br /> and burning directly on any steam or water boilers or <br /> other metal heating surface of a heating system subject to <br /> pressure . <br /> Section 10: Every oil burner used in connection <br /> With the water, steam or warm air heating systems, or in any <br /> stove, range or heater, shall be provided with an approved <br /> automatic shut-off that will effectively and Quickly "stop the <br /> flow of oil from the storage or supply tank to the fire box <br /> in case the burner flame should be extinguished or oil should <br /> accumulate in the fire box. <br /> Every )il burner shall beprovided with an oil shut- <br /> off valve installed near the burner. <br /> here oil regulating valves are used in connection <br /> with oil burners , they shall be of approved type, provided <br /> with a stuffing box of liberal size, containing a removal <br /> • cupped gland designed to compress the packing against the <br /> valve stem and arranged so as to facilitate removal. : he valves <br /> shall be designed to close against oil supply, and to prevent <br /> withdrawal of steam by continued operation of the hand wheel <br /> or handhold. •she use of packing affected by trio oil fuel is <br /> prohibited. 7 <br />
