See page 9 of the structural calculations. It appears that beam FB-1 is a floor beam that
supports beam RB-3. It is unclear if FB-1 is supporting the wall above and any deck or floor
framing. Sheet S-5 shows beam FB-1 located directly underneath a bearing wall supporting roof
framing. Structural calculations should be updated to include all loads in the beam design.
Response: Beam FB-1 does in fact support the existing deck, the wall above, beam RB-3 and the
parallel joists at the first flnnr and the roof framing. Please reference undated FB-1 calculation
attarhprl
2.) Continuing with the previous comment, the original construction appears to be modified without
permits and the exterior wall below, where FB-1 is located, was removed resulting in
discontinuous shear walls/brace walls. The lateral design has been altered and structural
calculations should be provided to substantiate the new layout and design. See General
Comment and Architectural Comment 1 for more information.
Response: The previous interior wall below that was removed was not part of the lateral resisting
system. The wall was not sheathed and nailed, and as drywall is not allowed to be used as a shear
resisting element in a seismic region, this portion of wall was not critical to the lateral resisting
system. Therefore,design is sufficient.
