installed at an absolute minimum. This was discussed on site with Andersen and remedies were
underway. See attached photo#2.—#5 anchor reinforcing bars (unhooked, vertical leg only) were
installed at the subject anchor. Note that bars were shorter than typical to fit within the confined
space. Installed conditions appear acceptable to PSE for the subject anchor.
- A large concrete block was noticed sitting in this area within the rebar cage region and should be
removed prior to the pour. See attached photo#3.—Block appeared to have been removed by time
of SO#4. Note that in the northwest corner instances were observed where CMU blocks were used
to support bottom mat of rebar (similar to a dobie). Instances observed were acceptable to PSE.
- A large steel rod was noticed on the edge of the foundation (south side near middle) and should be
removed prior to the pour. See attached photo#4.—Observed to be corrected at SO#4.
Instances of concrete dobies no longer needed for cover maintenance should be removed, if
possible, prior to the pour. See attached photo#5.—Visibility was limited by formwork, anchor
templates, and congested reinforcing at time of SO#4. PSE recommends Andersen review dobies
and bar clearances prior to the pour.
At the building column footing locations, the shorter threaded rods with the large steel plate washer
(6" x 6") was elevated above the Styrofoam layer which deviated from the plans, however, this is
acceptable as is. No adjustments are required prior to the pour.—Previously resolved.
The wood forms for the keyway blockouts did not match the geometry on the contract plans.
Possible resolutions were discussed in field, however, it was agreed that the best solution would be
to reconstruct the key forms to be 12"x12" square at the large end and include a 3" deep taper
along all edges, per the contract plans.—Corrected keyway blockout forms were observed and
appeared to be in general conformance with PSE's plans.
- At the pilaster dowels, irregularity in angle and elevation of the top of the form savers was
observed. These should be corrected and adjusted for plumb-ness of the vertical leg for ease of
installation of the future pilaster reinforcement bars. See attached photo#6.—Slight inconsistencies
in elevation and plumbness remained during SO#4 (see attached photo 32). Prior to pour, review
and correct formsaver/dowel locations to the greatest extent feasible. There shall be no instances
where the top of formsavers are at an elevation below the finished surface. See previous email from
Bill Sandbo on 2/15/2023 (see attached) regarding accommodating/adjusting formsavers that sit
proud of the finished concrete surface.
- El HESS Foundation SO3 Photos
Items discussed during SO#4/Pre-pour Meeting:
- One instance was noted in the northwest corner where both anchor reinforcing#5 bars were placed
on the same side of a perimeter wall block anchor(see photo 43). Bars shall be relocated or added
such that they are on either side of the anchor, as shown in Detail (4/SF7) of PSE's drawings.
- PSE understands the pour is scheduled to begin around 4:OOam tomorrow. Potential cold weather
impacts were discussed. PSE understands that Andersen doesn't plan to use heaters, but thermal
blankets will be laid following the pour.
- Bill Sandbo (PSE) intends to be present for part of the pour.
- Boron Carbide to be added on site. PSE understands Andersen intends to keep a detailed log of
boron carbide and other admixtures included in each truck load.
- Concerns regarding concrete flow and stability were discussed. PSE understands representatives
from Otto Rosenau will be present during the pour to sample for testing.
- Anchor templates and formwork may limit the crew's ability to achieve desired finish.Andersen
anticipates some additional finishing work following the removal of the template.
- Andersen informed PSE that they intend to wet set the premolded joint filler material at the
perimeter of the new mat foundation.
Action Items:
2
