Alternatively, the thermal envelop may be designed per <br /> the Total UA method of WSEC Section R402.1.4; calculations substantiating the design <br /> should be included in the submittal documents. <br /> m. The building should be designed to comply with the additional energy efficiency <br /> requirements of WSEC Section R406. The architectural drawings should include a schedule <br /> listing the selected energy credits for the proposed project. <br /> n. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms per IRC Sections R314.2.2(WAC) and R315.2.2(WAC). <br /> Smoke alarms should be interconnected per Section R314.5. Combination alarms are <br /> permitted per Sections R314.5 and R315.4. <br /> o. Provide a whole house ventilation system complying with See IRC Section M1507.3. The <br /> drawings should state compliance with one of the systems specified in Sections M1507.3.4 <br /> through M1507.3.7; the requirements for the selected system should be specified in the <br /> plans. See IRC Section R303.4 (WAC). Where an exhaust fan is required, the location and <br /> exhaust rate should be specified in the plans. <br /> p. The location and type of heating system per IRC Section R303.9 (WAC). Gas appliances are <br /> prohibited in the locations specified in Section G2406. Use of space heaters and wood <br /> stoves are not permitted as the primary heating system. Solid fuel devices (e.g., wood <br /> stoves) should comply with IRC Section R303.9.3 (WAC). <br /> q. The building should be provided with a system supply hot water per IRC Section R306.4. <br /> The location and type of system should be specified in the drawings. Seismic restraints <br /> should be specified for tank water heaters per IRC Section M1307.2. <br /> Structural <br /> 1. The construction drawings should specify the structural assemblies, framing, and connections <br /> for the proposed project. Structural work may be shown on the architectural drawings or in <br /> separate structural drawings; separate drawings are recommended where significant work is <br /> being performed. See IRC Section 106.1.1. The construction drawings should include but are <br /> not limited to: <br /> a. Framing plans, elevations, sections, details, material specifications, structural general notes, <br /> and other information as required to specify the proposed construction. The drawings <br /> should specify framing sizes, dimensions, spacings, heights, slopes, and orientation as <br /> required to clearly define the work. The design should provide a complete gravity load path <br /> consisting of roof and floor joists, walls, beams, headers, posts, and foundations. <br /> b. Foundation plans, sections, and details showing the building footings and below-grade walls. <br /> The foundation material(s) should be clearly specified. The plans should specify the type, <br /> size, length, width, thickness, and height of all parts of the foundation. The foundations <br /> should be founded a minimum of 18" below grade for frost protection per EMC Section <br /> 16.01.010(J). The depth of soil being retained by below-grade walls should be specified. <br /> c. Details for the connections between all framing. The size, weather-protection (e.g., <br /> galvanizing, etc.), and number of generic fasteners should be specified. The make and <br /> model of proprietary hardware, including the size and number of fasteners, should be <br /> provided. Minimum spacing, and end and edge distances for fasteners should be specified. <br /> d. Specification of preservative-treated or naturally durable framing when required. <br /> Preservative-treated wood should comply with AWPA U1; cuts and holes should be coated <br /> with a preservative treatment complying with AWPA 4.
