BMP C233: Silt Fence
BMP: C241 Temporary Sediment Pond
Silt fence is proposed at the downhill side of all earthwork and clearing within the project area. The silt
fence should be installed at the earliest possible opportunity and must be in place prior to beginning any
major earthwork activities. Silt fence will be installed parallel to the contour lines and where they
intercept runoff approaching at right angles. The locations of the silt fences as well as proposed BMPS
are shown on the Site Preparation and Erosion Control plan sheets in Appendix A of this C-SWPPP.
Alternate sediment control BMPS are included in Appendix C as a quick reference tool for the on-site
inspector in the event the BMP listed above is deemed ineffective or inappropriate during construction
to satisfy the requirements set forth in General NPDES permit (Appendix D).To avoid potential erosion
and sediment control issues that may cause a violation of the NPDES Construction Stormwater permit,
the Certified Erosion and Sediment Lead will promptly initiate the implementation of one or more of the
alternate BMPs listed in Appendix C after the first sign that existing BMP are ineffective or failing.
In addition, sediment will be removed from paved areas in and adjacent to construction work areas
manually or using mechanical sweepers, as needed,to minimize tracking of sediments on vehicle tires
away from the site and to minimize wash off sediments from adjacent streets in runoff. Whenever
possible, sediment laden water shall be discharged into on-site, relatively level, vegetated areas.
3.1.5 Element#5—Stabilize Soils
Exposed and unworked soils shall be stabilized with the application of effective BMPs to prevent erosion
throughout the life of the project. The specific BMPs for soil stabilization that shall be used on this
project include:
BMP C120:Temporary and Permanent Seeding
BMP C121: Mulching
BMP C123: Plastic Covering
BMP C125: Surface Roughening
BMP C140: Dust Control
Plastic covering anticipated to be used as a cover only for temporary stockpile for overburden on south
excavation and as short-term protection for exposed slopes.Care must be taken at the bottom of the
plastic covered slopes so the runoff from the plastic does not cause erosion at the toe of the slope.
8
