LOEB
ELECTRIC
4.2 Arc Flash Relay Specifications and Design
See Appendix G
4.3 Arc Flash Relay Division of Responsibilities
• Amazon
■ Will provide site one-line drawings and relay logic diagram
■ If no one line is provided please stop and contact amazon
■ Provide Utility Information
■ Provide IP addresses for BMS through Loeb
Note:Any changes to the relay logic or protection functions outside of the relay logic modification
guide, see Appendix G, need to be approved by Amazon RME Engineering team and communicated
through Loeb.
• Loeb
■ Provide professional project management services
■ Lead all communications between stakeholders, including but not limited to:
• Amazon Corporate
• Amazon Site Facility
• VEEC
• Utility/Power Provider
■ Coordinate power outages with utilities, building services, and IT managers or providers to
perform system diagnostics and backups prior to shut down and data upload (if
applicable) post energization.
■ Contact local utility to schedule utility outage
• VEEC
■ Review provided one-line drawings to determine if arc flash relays can be installed on
existing equipment.
■ If arc flash relays are compatible with existing equipment, a proposal must be provided to
install an arc flash relay on every Main utility Service entrance.
■ If arc flash relays are not compatible with existing equipment due to lack of shunt trip
functionality, such as (If the main Utility Service entrance Breaker or switch cannot be
tripped by a Shunt Trip) a "modernization" proposal must be provided within (5)
business days of site walk to upgrade the appropriate breaker so the arc flash relay can
be applied.
■ If site conditions do not allow the Arc Flash Relay to be configured as the drawings show
and modifications need made, VEEC must redline the arc flash relay drawings to show
wiring changes made.
■ Program SEL relay with customer provided configuration.
■ Install wiring for CT's and voltage connections (to be completed during scheduled
outage).
• Voltage connections will be:
• Connected to line side of main breaker with confirmation from utility
• Fused at 10A before leaving switchboard
• Connected to a fused disconnect switch installed by the electrical
contractor between the switchboard and the relay enclosure
■ Install the fiber optic arc sensing cables. Per guidance in Appendix W
■ Install protection class CTs,with some form of bracing to hold CTs in place. Verify CTs are insulated
from bus utilizing provided boots.
181 Pag
