llllll. <br />EVERETT <br />WASHINGTON <br />Scope and Purpose <br />Fire Department Access <br />Gates and Barriers <br />INFORMATION HANDOUTA-3 <br />4.22.2021 <br />Required Fire Department Access roads and or fire lanes shall be maintained unobstructed and in good <br />condition for vehicular usage at all times. The Fire Department may allow closure by approved gates that <br />comply with the standards outlined within this document. <br />No gate or other barrier may be installed across a required fire department access road or driveway <br />without first submitting for a permit and being approval by the Fire Code Official. <br />Width <br />Gate width shall be a minimum of 20 feet unobstructed. When open, gates shall not obstruct any <br />portion of the required width of the driveway or access road. <br />Electronically Operated Gates <br />Key Switch (KNOX) <br />Gates electronic controlled shall have an approved <br />fire department override key switch (Knox). <br />Activation of an approved key switch for an <br />electronically controlled gate shall open the <br />gate/gates to the fully open position within 10 <br />seconds and remain in the open position until reset <br />by EFD personnel. <br />Automatic Traffic Control -Activating Strobe Light <br />Sensors <br />In addition to the Key Switch (Knox), gates accessing <br />more than three residences or residential lots, or gates <br />accessing hazardous, institutional, educational, multi- <br />family or assembly occupancy group structures, shall <br />be equipped with an approved automatic traffic <br />control -activating strobe light sensor capable of <br />detecting emergency vehicle pulsing strobe lights <br />(Tomar) from any direction of vehicle approach <br />(interior and exterior), overriding all commands and <br />opening the gate(s).
