CITY OF EVERETT SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br /> <br />Water Main Replacement “Y” – Ph 1 Div 5 – SURFACE TMTS & PVMTS March 2024 <br />Work Order No. UP 3814 SP-161 <br />Mix designs for HMA accepted by Nonstatistical evaluation shall; <br />d. Have the aggregate structure and asphalt binder content determined in <br />accordance with WSDOT Standard Operating Procedure 732 and meet the <br />requirements of Sections 9-03.8(2), except that Hamburg testing for ruts and <br />stripping are at the discretion of the Engineer, and 9-03.8(6). <br />e. Have anti-strip requirements, if any, for the proposed mix design determined in <br />accordance with AASHTO T 283 or T 324, or based on historic anti-strip and <br />aggregate source compatibility from previous WSDOT lab testing. <br />f. At the discretion of the Engineer, City may accept verified mix designs older than <br />12 months from the original verification date with a certification from the Contractor <br />that the materials and sources are the same as those shown on the original mix <br />design. <br />g. Commercial Evaluation: Approval of a mix design for “Commercial Evaluation” will <br />be based on a review of the Contractor’s submittal of WSDOT Form 350-042 (For <br />commercial mixes, AASHTO T 324 evaluation is not required) or a Mix Design <br />from the current WSDOT QPL or from one of the processes allowed by this <br />section. Testing of the HMA by the City for mix design approval is not required. <br />h. For the Bid Item Commercial HMA, select a class of HMA and design level of <br />Equivalent Single Axle Loads (ESAL’s) appropriate for the required use. <br />5-04.2(2)B Using Warm Mix Asphalt Process <br />The Contractor may elect to use additives that reduce the optimum mixing <br />temperature or serve as a compaction aid for producing HMA. Additives include <br />organic additives, chemical additives and foaming processes. The use of Additives <br />is subject to the following: <br />a. Do not use additives that reduce the mixing temperature more than <br />allowed in Section 5-04.3(6) in the production of mixtures. <br />b. Before using additives, obtain the Engineer’s approval using WSDOT <br />Form 350-076 to describe the proposed additive and process. <br />5-04.3 Construction Requirements <br />5-04.3(1) Weather Limitations <br />Do not place HMA for wearing course on any Traveled Way beginning October 1st <br />through March 31st of the following year without written concurrence from the Engineer. <br />Do not place HMA on any wet surface, or when the average surface temperatures are <br />less than those specified in Table 1, or when weather conditions otherwise prevent the <br />proper handling or finishing of the HMA. <br /> <br />Table 1 Minimum Surface Temperature for Paving <br />Compacted Thickness <br />(Feet) Wearing Course Other Courses <br />Less than 0.10 55◦F 45◦F <br />0.10 to .20 45◦F 35◦F <br />More than 0.20 35◦F 35◦F <br /> <br />
