CITY OF EVERETT SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br /> <br />Water Main Replacement “Y” – Ph 1 Div B – BID ITEM DESCRIPTIONS March 2024 <br />Work Order No. UP 3814 SP-32 <br />2. Utility or light pole holding in conformance with the requirements of the applicable utility <br />including, if necessary, arranging for the utility to hold poles and paying the associated fees. <br />3. Trench excavation and dewatering, installation of pipe, furnishing, placing and compacting <br />sand backfill for pipe bedding per Section 9-03.22, furnishing, placing and compacting trench <br />backfill and placing and compacting imported backfill material. No extra payment shall be <br />made for removing, loading, hauling, and disposing of displaced and unsuitable material. <br />4. Maintenance, restoration and/or relocation, if required, of existing culverts, storm drainage <br />pipe, other utilities and structures affected by construction that are to remain. <br />5. Temporary and permanent thrust blocking and dead man blocks, and temporary and <br />permanent restraint systems. <br />6. Ethafoam pads or sand backfill between watermain and other pipes. <br />7. Geogrid required within trench backfill (Madrona site only). <br />8. Maintenance of existing watermain and provisions for interim water service. <br />9. Pressure and purity testing of all watermains and shall include providing temporary blow-offs, <br />backflow prevention, air gap apparatus, flushing, and disinfecting as necessary for testing in <br />accordance with 7-09.3(24) of these Special Provisions and COE Standard Drawing No. <br />526. <br />10. Abandonment of existing watermains as shown on the Plans, including cutting, draining <br />water and properly disposing, and plugging pipe at each end with a minimum of 2-feet of <br />Commercial concrete or CDF. Include the concrete or CDF work with this work with no direct <br />compensation being made. Abandon existing mains in place where possible. Include cost of <br />removal, hauling, and disposal of existing main with these Bid items when abandoning in <br />place is not possible. Include closing existing valves, and plugging where noted, to be <br />abandoned and removing the lids and valve boxes. <br />11. Work required to avoid unexpected or unforeseen obstacles shall be paid for under the <br />Force Account item. <br /> <br />Based on the unit price per lineal foot for Ductile Iron Pipe for Watermain, ___-inch, partial <br />payments will be made as follows: <br />• Upon pipe installation - 70% of bid price <br />• Upon successful testing and connection and service transfer - 25% of bid price <br />• Upon completion of permanent patch - 5% of bid price. <br />Bid Item A24 - Assist COE in Temporary Water Main Installation <br />Specification Section 7-09 <br />Measurement and Payment: Lump Sum (LS) <br />The unit contract price to Assist COE in Temporary Water Main Installation shall constitute full <br />compensation for all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary to perform the work to <br />furnish and install the temporary pipe to the limits indicated in the plan and in accordance with the <br />standards and these special provisions, including, but not limited to the following: <br />1. Protection and maintenance of existing watermain within the limit of the proposed temporary <br />water main until such time the temporary water main is installed, tested, approved by the <br />engineer, and activated. <br />2. Coordination and schedule arrangement with the COE and assistance as City forces install <br />the temporary system. <br />3. Furnishing, and maintain the temporary water line pipe, service pipe, and all necessary <br />couplings, bends and fittings. <br />4. Pressure and purity testing of all watermains and shall include providing temporary blow-offs, <br />backflow prevention, air gap apparatus, flushing, and disinfecting as necessary for testing in <br />accordance with 7-09.3(24) of these Special Provisions and COE Standard Drawing No. <br />526. <br />5. Connect existing water services and existing fire hydrants located within the limits of the <br />activated temporary water main and maintaining these connections.
