All longitudinal joints 2 constructed in the wearing course shall be located at a lane line or an edge line of the 3 Traveled Way. A notched wedge joint shall be constructed along all longitudinal joints in 4 the wearing surface of new HMA unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. The 5 notched wedge joint shall have a vertical edge of not less than the maximum aggregate 6 size or more than ½ of the compacted lift thickness and then taper down on a slope not 7 steeper than 4H:1V. The sloped portion of the HMA notched wedge joint shall be 8 uniformly compacted. 9 10 5-04.3(12)B Bridge Paving Joint Seals 11 12 5-04.3(12)B1 HMA Sawcut and Seal 13 Prior to placing HMA on the bridge deck, establish sawcut alignment points at both ends 14 of the bridge paving joint seals to be placed at the bridge ends, and at interior joints 15 within the bridge deck when and where shown in the Plans. Establish the sawcut 16 alignment points in a manner that they remain functional for use in aligning the sawcut 17 after placing the overlay. 18 19 Submit a Type 1 Working Drawing consisting of the sealant manufacturer’s application 20 procedure. 21 22 Construct the bridge paving joint seal as specified ion the Plans and in accordance with 23 the detail shown in the Standard Plans. Construct the sawcut in accordance with the 24 detail shown in the Standard Plan. The completed surface of the 37 wearing course shall not vary more than ⅛ inch from the lower edge of a 10-foot 38 straightedge placed on the surface parallel to the centerline.
