By other method approved by the Engineer. 4 5 Correction of defects shall be carried out until there are no deviations anywhere greater 6 than the allowable tolerances. 7 8 Deviations in excess of the above tolerances that result from a low place in the HMA and 9 deviations resulting from a high place where corrective action, in the opinion of the 10 Engineer, will not produce satisfactory results will be accepted with a price adjustment. 11 The Engineer shall deduct from monies due or that may become due to the Contractor 12 the sum of $500.00 for each and every section of single traffic lane 100 feet in length in 13 which any excessive deviations described above are found. 14 15 When utility appurtenances such as manhole covers and valve boxes are located in the 16 traveled way, the utility appurtenances shall be adjusted to the finished grade prior to 17 paving. This requirement may be waived when requested by the Contractor, at the 18 discretion of the Engineer or when the adjustment details provided in the project plan or 19 specifications call for utility appurtenance adjustments after the completion of paving. 20 21 Utility appurtenance adjustment discussions will be included in the Pre-Paving planning 22 (5-04.3(14)B3). Submit a written request to waive this requirement to the Engineer prior 23 to the start of paving. 24 25 5-04.3(14) Planing (Milling) Bituminous Pavement 26 The planning plan must be approved by the Engineer and a pre planning meeting must 27 be held prior to the start of any planing. See Section 5-04.3(14)B2 for information on 28 planning submittals. 29 30 Locations of existing surfacing to be planed are as shown in the Drawings. 31 32 Where planing an existing pavement is specified in the Contract, the Contractor must 33 remove existing surfacing material and to reshape the surface to remove irregularities. 34 The finished product must be a prepared surface acceptable for receiving an HMA 35 overlay. 36 37 Use the cold milling method for planing unless otherwise specified in the Contract. Do 38 not use the planer on the final wearing course of new HMA. 39 40 Conduct planing operations in a manner that does not tear, break, burn, or otherwise 41 damage the surface which is to remain. The finished planed surface must be slightly 42 grooved or roughened and must be free from gouges, deep grooves, ridges, or other 43 imperfections. The Contractor must repair any damage to the surface by the Contractor’s 44 planing equipment, using an Engineer approved method. 45 46
