CITY OF EVERETT WEST MARINE VIEW DRIVE/ALVERSON AND 41 ST ST/GRAND AVE <br />PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS <br />STATE FUND# HLP-PB15(032) <br />WO #3630 July 25, 2024 <br />81 <br />1 5-06.3(1) General <br />2 <br />3 Pavement patching shall be scheduled to accommodate the demands of traffic and <br />4 shall be performed as rapidly as possible to provide maximum safety and convenience <br />5 to public traffic. <br />6 <br />7 The placing and compaction of the trench backfill and the preparation and compaction <br />8 of the subgrade shall be in accordance with the various applicable sections of the <br />9 Standard Specifications except as modified by these Special Provisions. <br />10 <br />11 Before the pavement patch is to be constructed the pavement shall be saw cut so that <br />12 the marginal edges of the patch will form a rectangular shape with straight edges and <br />13 vertical faces. <br />14 <br />15 Signs, barricades, lights and other warning devices shall be installed per the <br />16 requirements of the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices" and they shall be <br />17 maintained 24 hours a day until the patching work is completed and ready for traffic. <br />18 <br />19 Compaction of the subgrade shall be completed prior to the required patching. <br />20 Subgrade compaction shall be to 95% as determined by the ASTM D2922 (nuclear <br />21 method). <br />22 <br />23 5-06.3(2) Cement Concrete Pavement <br />24 <br />25 After the Crushed Surfacing Top Course subgrade for the pavement has been <br />26 constructed and compacted to line and grade, the cement concrete pavement patch <br />27 shall be placed and struck off to a thickness of 1" greater than the existing pavement <br />28 or 8" minimum, whichever is greater. All work shall be in accordance with Section 5- <br />29 05 of the Standard Specifications, except as modified by these Special Provisions and <br />30 Standard Drawing No. 326. <br />31 <br />32 Through joints and dummy joints shall be placed to match existing or as directed by <br />33 the Engineer. The surface of the concrete patch shall be finished and brushed with a <br />34 fiber brush. Approved curing compound shall be placed on the finished concrete <br />35 immediately after finishing. <br />36 <br />37 5-06.3(3) Cement Concrete Pavement Resurfaced with HMA <br />38 <br />39 Streets which have cement concrete pavements surfaced with HMA shall be patched <br />40 as shown on Standard Drawing No. 326. <br />41 <br />42 The cement concrete portion of the patch shall be Class 4000, HES. The thickness <br />43 shall be 1" thicker than the existing concrete base or 6" whichever is greater. The top <br />44 surface of the concrete patch shall match the top surface of the existing concrete <br />45 base; in no case shall the top of the concrete be higher than the top of the existing <br />46 concrete base. Brush finishing will not be required. Joints shall be placed to match <br />47 existing or as directed by the Engineer. <br />48 <br />49 HMA plant mix shall not be placed until 3 days after the cement concrete base has <br />50 been placed or otherwise permitted by the Engineer. The HMA plant mix shall not be <br />51 placed until the concrete base has received a tack coat of CRS-2 at a rate of 0.12
