The Contractor shall use ACI 211.1 as a guide to determine 24 <br />proportions. Concrete strength, placeability, and workability shall be the 25 <br />responsibility of the Contractor. Following approval of the Contractor’s proposal, all 26 <br />other requirements of Section 5-05 shall apply. 27 <br /> 28 <br />1. Materials. Materials shall conform to Section 5 -05.2. Fine aggregate shall 29 <br />conform to Section 9-03.1(2)B, Class 1. Coarse aggregate shall conform to 30 <br />Section 9-03.1(4) and shall conform to Section 9-03.1(4)C AASHTO grading 31 <br />No. 467 or an alternate gradation which has a minimum of 5 percent retained 32 <br />on the 1½-inch square sieve. Fly ash, if used, shall conform to Section 9 -33 <br />23.9 and shall be limited to Class F with a maximum CaO content of 15 34 <br />percent by weight. The fly ash shall be limited to 20 percent by weight, of 35 <br />the total cementitious material. As an alternative to the use of fly ash and 36 <br />cement as separate components, a blended hydraulic cement may be used. 37 <br />Blended hydraulic cement shall conform to ASTM C 595 Type IP(MS). 38 <br /> 39 <br />In making calculations relative to cement factor or allowable water/cement 40 <br />ratio, the total cementitious material shall be taken as the weight of Portland 41 <br />cement plus the weight of fly ash. 42 <br /> 43 <br />2. Submittals. The Contractor’s submittal for approval shall include the mix 44 <br />proportions per cubic yard and the proposed sources for all ingredients 45 <br />including the power plant that generated the fly ash. The mix shall be 46 <br />capable of providing a minimum flexural strength of 650 psi at 14 days. 47 <br />Evaluation of strength shall be based on statistically analyzed results of 5 48 <br />beam specimens and demonstrate a quality level of not less than 80 percent 49 <br />analyzed in accordance with Section 1 -06.2(2)D.
