April, 14, 2023 G-5844
7105 —Juniper Dr, Everett, WA Page 3
systems. Descriptions of the variables used for the wall's design& analysis are described in
Appendix A —Retaining Wall Calculations.
Lateral Earth Pressure
To address surcharge load effects, the segmental concrete block retaining wall is anticipated to
resist a lateral earth pressure of approximately 75 pcf, as the ground behind the wall is sloped at
an inclination of approximately 2.5H:IV.
Soil Bearing Pressure
Based on the findings of our limited subsurface investigation, and review of the published
geologic map for the property (Geologic map of the Everett 7.5-minute quadrangle, Snohomish
County, Washington, Minard, J.P., 1985), the soils underlying the retaining wall consist of
advance outwash deposits, which were over-ridden by the Puget lobe during the last glacial
period. Due to the over consolidated and compact nature of these deposits, allowable bearing
capacity is in excess of 3,000 pounds per square foot(psf). The load imposed by the retaining
wall was calculated to be approximately 700 psf.
Factors of Safety
The retaining wall's bearing, overturning, and sliding factors of safety were considered
acceptable if they were calculated to be greater than or equal to 2.0, 1.5, and 1.5 respectively.
Each factor of safety was calculated at each retaining wall station, which are illustrated on Plate
2— Wall Cross Sections &Elevation View,
STABILITY ANALYSIS RESULTS
The results of our calculations for the retaining wall's factors of safety at the stations used for the
cross sections are described in the attached Appendix A ---Retaining Wall Calculations, and are as
follow:
Bearing FoS Overturning FoS Sliding FoS
1, STA: + 25.50' > 3.0 1.91 1.91
2. STA: +40.00' > 3.0 1.58 1.58
GEO Group Northwest, Inc.
