ANALYTICAL SERVICES, INC. (ASI)
Microbiological Testing, Research and Consulting
Page 2 of 4

Analytical Methods and Logistics

Methods - ASI uses Envirochek HV filters to concentrate and EPA Method 1623.1 (Cryptosporidium and
Giardia in Water by filtration/IMS/FA, EPA 816-R-12-001, Jan. 2012) to analyze source and finished
water samples received at our laboratory. The method detection limit and reporting limit for this assay
is one oocyst or cyst per volume analyzed.

Sample Collection – For Cryptosporidium and Giardia, ASI offers our clients the choice of collecting
samples by field filtration using Envirochek HV filters or bulk grab samples; whichever is better for your
situation. It is understood that the City of Everett will collect using Envirochek HV filters (other than
matrix spikes).

Sample Shipment - EPA Method 1623.1 Cryptosporidium samples must arrive at the laboratory at <20°C
(and unfrozen). ASI has customized sampling, handling and shipping instructions for filtered samples
and utilizes a unique “cooler within a cooler” approach for filters. We have tested shipping containers
and packing materials under extreme temperature conditions to ensure temperature integrity.

ASI has the expertise and capacity to support your important project. Please contact me if you have any
questions.

Sincerely,

ANALYTICAL SERVICES, INC.

Paul S.
