Circular loops are standard installations. Where shown in the Plans, the 1
contractor shall install quadrupole loops at stop lines due to stub-out 2
diameter. At locations where quadrupole loops are shown and adequate 3
stub-out diameter exists, round loops may be substituted for quadrupole 4
loops. 5
6
7
Existing Traffic Loops 8
9
The Contractor shall notify the Area Traffic Engineer through the Engineer a 10
minimum of five (5) working days in advance of pavement removal or grinding 11
in areas with existing loops. 12
13
If the Engineer suspects that damage to any loop, not identified in the Plans as 14
being replaced, may have resulted from Contractor’s operations or is not 15
operating adequately, the Engineer may order the Contractor to perform the field 16
tests specified in Section 8 20.3(14)D. The test results shall be recorded and 17
submitted to the Engineer. Loops that fail any of these tests shall be replaced. 18
19
Loops that fail the tests, as described above, and are replaced shall be installed 20
in accordance with current City of Everett design standards and Standard 21
Drawings, as determined by the Engineer. 22
23
If traffic signal loops that fail the tests, as described above, are not replaced and 24
operational within 5 working days, the Contractor shall install and maintain 25
interim video detection until the replacement loops are operational. The type of 26
interim video detection furnished shall be approved by the Engineer prior to 27
installation. 28
29
GLF 8-20.4.DOCX 30
8-20.4 Measurement 31
32
Section 8-20.4 is supplemented with the following: 33
34
(******) 35
“Vehicle Loop Detectors”, for both loop perimeter and home run, shall be measured by 36
the linear foot of the neat sawcut line in place in the roadway. No additional measurement 37
will be made for the installation of lead-in conduit and shall be included in the 38
measurement 39
40
“Loop Detector Lead-In Cable” shall be measured by the linear foot of the neat line of 41
conduit between the controller cabinet and loop splice. No additional measurement will 42
be made for coiled loop detector cable in junction boxes or cabinets. 43
44
“Conduit Pipe 2 In. Diam.” shall be measured by the linear foot of the neat line of conduit 45
between the junction box and the curb line. No additional measurement will be made for 46
sweeps or elbows in junction boxes or at the curb line. 47
48
