2025 FEDERAL OVERLAY, W MUKILTEO BLVD – GLENWOOD AVE TO DOGWOOD DR <br /> PAGE SP119 OF SP123 SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br />WORK ORDER #3842 April 15, 2025 FEDERAL AID# NHPP-2776(011) <br /> 1 <br />The records and offset marking/staking shall be adequate to allow the pavement 2 <br />markings to be reproduced to a level of accuracy shown below: 3 <br /> 4 <br />Lane widths ±0.1 feet (normal to alignment) 5 <br />Longitudinal location of arrows and letters ±1.0 feet (parallel to alignment) 6 <br />Longitudinal location of stop lines ±1.0 feet (parallel to alignment) 7 <br />Transverse location of arrows and letters ±0.1 feet (normal to alignment) 8 <br />Longitudinal location of transitions and tapers ±1.0 feet (parallel to alignment) 9 <br />Pavement marking starts and stops ±1.0 feet (parallel to alignment) 10 <br /> 11 <br />The Contractor shall provide copies of any calculations, notes, and layout data 12 <br />to the Engineer, or their assigned representative, prior to grinding. The 13 <br />Contracting Agency will review the provided data, check the existing layout and 14 <br />provide revisions as necessary for establishment of lane widths, arrow and letter 15 <br />locations, tapers, transitions, other modifications, and pavement seams. The 16 <br />Contracting Agency will require up to seven calendar days from the date the 17 <br />data is received to conduct this review. No pavement grinding will be allowed 18 <br />before this review is complete. The Contractor will make adjustments to the curb 19 <br />marking and stakes to match the revisions prior to grinding. 20 <br /> 21 <br />Based on these records and/or the offset staking, the Contractor shall perform 22 <br />all field marking and preliminary spotting for all pavement marking and 23 <br />channelization following grinding operations, for temporary only. The 24 <br />Contracting Agency shall perform all field marking for permanent pavement 25 <br />marking and channelization. All calculations, surveying, and measuring required 26 <br />for setting and maintaining the necessary lines for the temporary pavement 27 <br />marking shall be the Contractor's responsibility. 28 <br /> 29 <br />Preliminary spotting shall be provided at a spacing of 40 foot maximum on 30 <br />tangents and 25 foot maximum on curves and tapers. All curves, tapers, stop 31 <br />lines, and crosswalks shall be laid out with a rope. Field layout for curves and 32 <br />tapers shall use an 800’ minimum length rope. The color of the material used 33 <br />for preliminary spotting shall be white. Longitudinal marking shall be parallel 34 <br />with the proposed line applied with a paint marker wand or other approved 35 <br />method, a minimum of 6 inches in length and wide enough so that a minimum 36 <br />of two marks can be clearly seen at night under ordinary headlight conditions. 37 <br />Refreshing of marks prior to striping shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. 38 <br /> 39 <br />Personnel performing the field layout and preliminary spotting shall be proficient 40 <br />in the practice of striping layout, including layout and preliminary spotting of 41 <br />curves and tapers using a rope and paint wand, proper annotation on the 42 <br />pavement of starts, stops, and changes in line type for pavement markings, and 43 <br />an understanding of WSDOT Standard Plans and City Standard Drawings for 44 <br />pavement markings. 45 <br /> 46 <br />Survey personnel performing the calculations, notes, and layout data shall be 47 <br />on site to answer questions regarding the layout notes as the roadway is being 48 <br />spotted or shall perform the work. In the event a revision is required by the 49 <br />Contracting Agency during field layout, either to correct errors in the notes or to 50 <br />make minor revision noted in the ordinary progress of the work, field layout shall 51 <br />be performed by the Contractor at the time. 52
