These communities often experience limited access to resources, opportunities and <br />equitable services, leading to disparities in areas such as housing, education, employment and <br />healthcare. <br />Middle Housing — Housing such as duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, townhomes, small apartment <br />buildings, cottage housing and courtyard apartments that fill the gap between single unit detached <br />homes and large apartment buildings. <br />Midrise Building — Residential, mixed use or commercial building between 4 and 7 stories in height. <br />Minor Arterial — Street that provides a vehicle and active transportation connection between major <br />arterials and concentrations of residential and commercial activities. <br />Mitigation — Measures used to avoid, minimize or compensate for adverse environmental impacts <br />resulting from development. <br />Mixed Use Areas or Centers — Neighborhoods or sections of the city that incorporate residential, <br />commercial, cultural, and institutional uses into one space, often within a building, block, or <br />neighborhood, fostering pedestrian connections and walkability. <br />Mixed-use Development — Building or buildings constructed as a single project that contains more than <br />one use, typically including housing plus retail and office uses. <br />Mode — A particular form of travel. For example, walking, bicycling, driving alone, carpool or vanpool, <br />bus, train, ferry, or airplane. <br />Mode Split — Percentage of travelers using a particular type of transportation, such as people using <br />private automobiles as opposed to the percentage using transit. <br />Moderate-Income Housing — Housing that is affordable to a household that earns between 80 percent <br />and 100 percent of the area median income, adjusted for household size. <br />Multicounty Planning Policies — Regional planning framework developed by Puget Sound Regional <br />Council to address regionwide issues and ensure consistency in planning across multiple counties. <br />Multifamily Dwelling — Housing where multiple separate housing units for residential inhabitants are <br />contained within one building or several buildings within one complex, such as apartments or <br />condominiums. <br />Multimodal Transportation — People or goods by moving from one place to another by walking, biking, <br />transit, rail, cars and trucks. <br />Natural Environment — All living and non-living things that occur naturally on Earth, without significant <br />human interaction. It's made up of ecosystems, including land, water, and coastal and marine <br />ecosystems, and the interactions between the animals and plants that live in them. <br />Neighborhood Node — Small commercial or mixed-use area in a location that is otherwise primarily <br />residential.
