For any building with four or fewer dwelling units or sleeping units, required bicycle 3 <br />space(s) may be provided within the dwellings, or in a secure attached storage locatfon. 4 <br />These need not be oversize spaces if provided within the dwellings, and need not 5 <br />provide racks, but must be horizontal. 6 <br />c. Long term bicycle spaces may be in any of the following: bike cage, bike room, bike 7 <br />locker, or bike hanger. 8 <br />4. Long-term bicycle spaces for any use must be provided in racks (see EMC 19.34.160(F)) within 9 <br />a bike cage or bike room, or within bike hangers or bike lockers. 10 <br />a. At least twenty-five percent of the total required long-term spaces, including the first 11 <br />space provided, shall not require lifting a bicycle off the ground or into a vertfcal 12 <br />positfon. 13 <br />b. At least five percent of total required long-term spaces beyond the first two spaces 14 <br />shall be dimensioned to accommodate oversize (cargo, tandem, long-tailed, or similar) 15 <br />bicycles and must not require lifting a bicycle off the ground or into a vertfcal positfon. 16 <br />c. Where 4 or fewer long-term bicycle spaces are required, a secure bike room need not 17 <br />provide racks. 18 <br />5. Long-term bicycle spaces shall be placed on floor and/or ground surfaces that are stable, firm, 19 <br />and slip resistant consistent with ADA Standards for Accessible Design, and provide tamper-20 <br />resistant qualitfes to the racks. 21 <br />6. Long term bicycle spaces shall prevent unauthorized access in one of the configuratfons: 22 <br />a. Within a locked room or secure enclosure with floor-to-ceiling clear height of 8 feet 23 <br />(or higher if needed for the racks installed). Such enclosure may be within structured 24 <br />parking, or in a purpose-built building providing full weather-protectfon; or 25 <br />c. In a permanently anchored, enclosed, and secured bike locker or bike hanger. Such 26 <br />lockers or hangers may themselves be within locked rooms or other enclosures. 27 <br />7. Property owners and businesses located on the same block may establish a grouped long term 28 <br />bicycle facility area where long-term bicycle spaces may be situated, provided that such facility 29 <br />area must be reached by ADA accessible route less than 300 feet long. 30 <br />8. Residentfal long-term bicycle spaces located within individual dwelling units, except under 31 <br />EMC 19.34.160(D)(3)(b), do not count towards required long-term bicycle spaces for a site. 32 <br />E. Bicycle Spaces, Basic Dimensions. 33 <br />1. The standard bicycle space (horizontal or vertfcal) is 2 feet wide, 6 feet long, and 3 feet 4 34 <br />inches tall. See Figure 34-5: Bicycle Spaces, Dimensions and Table 34-5: Minimum Dimensions for 35 <br />Bicycle Spaces. Bicycle spaces may exceed one or more dimensions. 36
