CITY OF EVERETT BID SET <br />EVERETT STATION HVAC AND CONTROLS IMPROVEMENTS <br />PROJECT NO. 24-3201 <br /> <br /> <br />01 35 44 - 1 HAZARDOUS MATERIALS PROCEDURES <br /> <br />SECTION 01 35 44 - HAZARDOUS MATERIALS PROCEDURES <br />PART 1 - GENERAL <br />1.1 SUMMARY <br />A. Section Includes: Hazardous materials abatement, Under the Work of this Contract, including proper remediation of <br />Asbestos Containing Materials, Lead remediation, Light Fixture Component recycling of fluorescent tubes containing <br />mercury and proper disposal of ballasts containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), as well as Biohazard pre- <br />cleaning and Silica remediation prior to and during demolition, transportation and proper disposal of construction <br />waste materials. <br />B. Renovation, Selective Demolition for the employer compliance with current federal, state and local health and <br />safety regulations for construction in the commercial building, Under the Work of the Contract. Other than <br />methods used to minimize the creation of dust, prompt cleanup and employer compliance with current regulations <br />to reduce the potential for worker exposure to potential hazardous materials, no abatement has been scheduled <br />for the Everett Station. A Limited Hazmat Report has been completed and can be found in Appendix B. <br />1.2 ASBESTOS REMEDIATION <br />A. Conform to Authorities Having Jurisdiction for asbestos remediation including PSCAA, WISHA and EPA regulations. <br />B. Claims or requests for additional work will not be accepted for any hidden friable or non-friable asbestos containing <br />materials identified during abatement and demolition. The base bid should cover complete abatement of all <br />surfacing material, and any hidden overspray on building materials, wallboard systems with < 1% asbestos <br />containing material, hidden vinyl asbestos flooring, vinyl paper backing and asbestos containing black floor mastic, <br />and any asbestos containing black mastic found on walls in the building as noted on drawings and specifications. <br />C. All remediation work shall be in conformance with Authorities Having Jurisdiction and as directed by the Owner and <br />coordinated with other construction activities at the work site as specified in the Work of this Contract. <br />D. Off-Limit Areas: Do not allow unauthorized personnel to enter areas marked by "Danger Asbestos Hazard" and <br />other required warning labels and signage. <br />1.3 LEAD REMEDIATION <br />A. Conduct lead hazard control activities, minimize dust and immediately clean up dust from all work activities, <br />demolition and disposal of <br />B. Conform to Authorities Having Jurisdiction for regulations, laws, and ordinances for controlled removal, handling, <br />storage, disposal, and using initial monitoring and required personal protective equipment for worker protection. <br />This includes taking measures to: <br /> <br />1. Contain paint particulates as required to prevent them from becoming airborne and escaping the work area <br />into the environment. <br />2. Remediation and stabilization of deteriorated, peeling, and flaking paint, clean up damaged building <br />materials prior to being removed, controlling dust during abatement, demolition, transport and disposal. <br />3. Conduct representative waste stream sampling and analysis for proper disposal using the Toxicity <br />Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP test).
