Refer to General Conditions for <br />additional requirements and definitions. <br />D. Construction Manager Procedures <br />1. PROTECTION IN PLACE: Protect utilities in place, unless abandoned, and maintain the <br />utility in service, unless otherwise specified on the plans or in the Specifications. <br />Backfill and compact under and around the utility so that no voids are left. Refer to <br />Section 31 23 00, Excavation and Fill for methods of backfill and compaction. <br />a. Backfill and compact under and around utilities. <br />b. Methods and compaction shall conform to Section 31 23 00 or the Utility <br />Owner’s requirements. <br />c. Where compaction cannot adequately be performed around utility due to the <br />presence of encroaching existing utilities, flowable fill may be provided on a case- <br />by-case basis with acceptance by the Construction Manager and the Utility <br />Owner. <br />1) Provide Submittals with product data, test results, and all documentation as <br />required by WSDOT Standards to demonstrate compliance. <br />E. Damage to Utilities to Remain: If existing utilities to remain are damaged, immediately <br />notify utility owner, and repair to utility owner’s satisfaction. <br />3.02 REMOVE AND RECONSTRUCT <br />A. Where specified, required to complete the Work, or as directed by the Construction <br />Manager, remove utilities and after completion of the Work, reconstruct the utility in kind, <br />with new materials and per the Utility agency requirements. Provide temporary service for <br />the disconnected utilities or as directed by the utility owner. <br />3.03 PROTECTION OF THRUST BLOCKS: <br />A. Protect thrust blocks on existing waterlines or sewer force mains in place. <br />B. If the thrust blocks are exposed or rendered to be ineffective in the opinion of the <br />Construction Manager, provide alternative thrust resistance accepted by the Construction <br />Manager or reconstruct blocks to bear against firm unexcavated or backfill material. <br />C. Contractor shall provide calculations indicating working pressure, surge pressure, joint <br />restraint lengths required and manufacturer’s product data. Calculations shall be <br />provided by a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Washington <br />3.04 SERVICE LATERALS AND CONNECTIONS <br />A. Service laterals and connections to the various utilities (potable water, secondary water, <br />irrigation water, sewer, gas, storm drains, land drains, etc.) in the vicinity of the Work. All <br />laterals and service connections are not shown on the plans. <br />B. Provide investigations, including exploratory excavations in accordance with Section 02 <br />01 10, Existing Utilities, Coordination and Location, to determine the locations and type <br />of existing service laterals or appurtenances when their presence can be inferred from <br />the presence of other visible facilities, such as buildings, meter and junction boxes, on or <br />adjacent to the site of the Work.
