<br /> <br /> <br />PGSF WMVD Storm and Combined Sewer - Construction Package 2 UST Removal and Closure <br />Project No. 180162 02 60 00 - 3 <br /> <br />3.02 UST REMOVAL <br />A. The Contractor shall conduct UST removals in accordance with WAC 173-360 and API <br />Recommended Practice 1604, “Removal and Disposal of Used Underground Petroleum <br />Storage Tank(s).” Contractor shall inert and remove the tank(s) from the site in its <br />entirety without any cutting performed on-site, unless prior approval is obtained from the <br />Engineer. <br />B. The Contractor shall remove soil from the sides of the tank(s) to facilitate tank(s) <br />removal. Contractor shall provide suitable equipment to safely and efficiently lift the <br />tanks and place on a truck for transport to an appropriate disposal or recycling facility. <br />C. The Contractor shall dispose of cleaned tanks at an appropriate scrap metal yard or <br />landfill permitted to accept such materials. The Contractor shall provide documentation <br />to the Engineer within 14 days of removal from site stating the name and address of the <br />facility where the tank was disposed, including bills of lading. The documentation shall <br />indicate the date received and a description (including size and dimensions given) of the <br />tank received. The documentation shall indicate the receiver’s intended final disposal <br />method for the tank (e.g., crushed for scrap metal, etc.). The Contractor shall obtain <br />certificates of destruction from the receiving facility for each tank removed. <br />D. If ground water is encountered, the Contractor shall dewater the excavation as necessary <br />to access the UST and provide a safe excavation. Treat and disposal of contaminated <br />groundwater and/or free product per Section 31 23 19 Dewatering. <br />3.03 UST SOIL SAMPLING AND PETROLEUM-CONTAMINATED SOIL EXCAVATION <br />A. The Contractor shall assist the Engineer in collecting soil samples from the excavation <br />using a backhoe or excavator as directed by the Engineer, per Soil Sampling and Testing <br />Coordination bid item. <br />B. The Contractor shall excavate, segregate, and stockpile soils at the direction of Engineer <br />per Section 02 61 00 Removal and Disposal of Contaminated Soils. <br />C. The Contractor shall dispose or reuse soils at the direction of Engineer per Section 02 61 <br />00 Removal and Disposal of Contaminated Soils. <br />D. The Contractor shall secure and leave UST excavations open for up to three days <br />(excluding weekends and pending analytical results) before receiving additional direction <br />from the Engineer to backfill the excavation or excavate additional soils. <br />E. The Contractor shall provide suitable barricades, fencing, signing and other warning and <br />safety devices to protect the public and other site workers from open excavations, heavy <br />equipment, and other construction activities. Contractor shall provide earthen or other <br />berms to prevent surface or storm water from entering open excavations. <br />F. The Contractor shall backfill and compact the excavation to grade as directed by the <br />Engineer. <br />END OF SECTION
