2026 Pavement Maintenance Overlay Special Provisions <br />PW# 3860 SP - 88 March 5, 2026 <br />1 (******) <br />2 Contractor Surveying Roadway Striping and Channelization <br />3 <br />4 No survey control data or layout will be furnished by the Contracting Agency for <br />5 existing pavement markings. The Contractor shall be solely responsible for <br />6 detailed documentation (records) of all existing pavement markings and <br />7 channelization in the field prior to grinding operations. This work includes but is <br />8 not limited to: field notes or survey, sketches, offset markings on curbs or staking <br />9 if no curb exists. <br />10 <br />11 The records and offset marking/staking shall be adequate to allow the pavement <br />12 markings to be reproduced to a level of accuracy shown below: <br />13 <br />14 Lane widths –0.1 feet (normal to alignment) <br />15 Longitudinal location of arrows and letters –1.0 feet (parallel to alignment) <br />16 Longitudinal location of stop lines –1.0 feet (parallel to alignment) <br />17 Transverse location of arrows and letters –0.1 feet (normal to alignment) <br />18 Longitudinal location of transitions and tapers –1.0 feet (parallel to alignment) <br />19 Pavement marking starts and stops –1.0 feet (parallel to alignment) <br />20 <br />21 Contractor personnel performing the field layout and preliminary spotting shall be <br />22 proficient in the practice of striping layout, including layout and preliminary <br />23 spotting of curves and tapers using a rope and paint wand, proper annotation on <br />24 the pavement of starts, stops, and changes in line type for pavement markings. <br />25 Based on field records and/or the offset staking, the Contractor shall perform all <br />26 field marking and preliminary spotting for all temporary pavement markings and <br />27 channelization following grinding operations as described in 8-23 Temporary <br />28 Pavement Markings and on the wearing course prior to permanent pavement <br />29 markings and channelization. <br />30 <br />31 Once the Contractor has provided field layout, the Contracting Agency shall <br />32 verify all field marking for permanent pavement markings and channelization.. <br />33 The Contractor shall notify the Contracting Agency a minimum of three (3) <br />34 business days prior to installation of permanent pavement markings and <br />35 channelization. <br />36 <br />37 Preliminary spotting will be provided at a spacing of 40 foot maximum on tangents <br />38 and 25 foot maximum on curves and tapers. All curves, tapers, stop lines, and <br />39 crosswalks will be laid out with a rope. The color of the material used for <br />40 preliminary spotting will be white. Longitudinal marking will be parallel with the <br />41 proposed line applied with a paint marker wand Refreshing of marks prior to <br />42 striping shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. <br />43 <br />44 All field layout and temporary pavement marking as described in 8-23 Temporary <br />45 Pavement Markings shall be completed during the same shift as the striping is <br />46 obliterated by grinding or paving unless otherwise directed by the Engineer. <br />47 <br />48
