2026 Pavement Maintenance Overlay Special Provisions <br />PW# 3860 SP - 52 March 5, 2026 <br />1 <br />2 5-04.3 Construction Requirements <br />3 <br />4 5-04.3(1) Weather Limitations <br />5 Do not place HMA for wearing course on any Traveled Way beginning October 1st <br />6 through March 31st of the following year without written concurrence from the Engineer. <br />7 <br />8 Do not place HMA on any wet surface, or when the average surface temperatures are <br />9 less than those specified below, or when weather conditions otherwise prevent the proper <br />10 handling or finishing of the HMA. <br />11 <br />12 Minimum Surface Temperature for Paving <br />Compacted Thickness <br />(Feet)Wearing Course Other Courses <br />Less than 0.10 55F 45F <br />0.10 to .20 45F 35F <br />More than 0.20 35F 35F <br />13 <br />14 5-04.3(2) Paving Under Traffic <br />15 When the Roadway being paved is open to traffic, the requirements of this Section <br />16 shall apply. <br />17 <br />18 The Contractor shall keep intersections open to traffic at all times except when paving the <br />19 intersection or paving across the intersection. During such time, and provided that there <br />20 has been an advance warning to the public, the intersection may be closed for the <br />21 minimum time required to place and compact the mixture. In hot weather, the Engineer <br />22 may require the application of water to the pavement to accelerate the finish rolling of the <br />23 pavement and to shorten the time required before reopening to traffic. <br />24 <br />25 Before closing an intersection, advance warning signs shall be placed, and signs shall <br />26 also be placed marking the detour or alternate route. <br />27 <br />28 During paving operations, temporary pavement markings shall be maintained throughout <br />29 the project. Temporary pavement markings shall be installed on the Roadway prior to <br />30 opening to traffic. Temporary pavement markings shall be in accordance with Section 8- <br />31 23. <br />32 <br />33 All costs in connection with performing the Work in accordance with these requirements, <br />34 except the cost of temporary pavement markings, shall be included in the unit Contract <br />35 prices for the various Bid items involved in the Contract. <br />36
