2026 Pavement Maintenance Overlay Special Provisions <br />PW# 3860 SP - 74 March 5, 2026 <br />1 access, garbage truck operations, transit operations and working around energized <br />2 overhead wires, school and nursing home and hospital and other accesses, other <br />3 Contractors who may be operating in the area, pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and <br />4 emergency services. The Contractor, and Subcontractors that may be part of that days <br />5 operations, must meet with the Engineer and discuss the proposed operation as it relates <br />6 to the submitted planing plan and paving plan, approved traffic control plan, and public <br />7 convenience and safety. Such discussion includes, but is not limited to: <br />8 <br />9 1. General for both the Paving and Planing: <br />10 <br />11 a. The actual times of starting and ending daily operations. <br />12 <br />13 b. In intersections, how to break up the intersection, and address traffic control and <br />14 signalization for that operation, including use of peace officers. <br />15 <br />16 c. The sequencing and scheduling of paving operations and of planing operations, <br />17 as applicable, as it relates to traffic control, public convenience and safety, and <br />18 other Contractors who may operate in the Project limits. <br />19 <br />20 d. Notifications required of Contractor activities and coordinating with other entities <br />21 and the public as necessary. <br />22 <br />23 e. Description of the sequencing of installation and types of temporary pavement <br />24 markings as it relates to planing and paving. <br />25 <br />26 f. Description of the sequencing of installation of, and the removal of, temporary <br />27 pavement patch material around exposed castings and as may be needed. <br />28 <br />29 g. Description of procedures and equipment to identify hidden metal in the <br />30 pavement, such as survey monumentation, monitoring wells, streetcar rail, and <br />31 castings, before planing as per Section 5-04.3(14)B2. <br />32 <br />33 h. Description of how flaggers will be coordinated with the planing, paving, and <br />34 related operations. <br />35 <br />36 i. Description of sequencing of traffic controls for the process of rigid pavement <br />37 base repairs. <br />38 <br />39 j. Other items the Engineer deems necessary to address. <br />40 <br />41 2. Paving additional topics: <br />42 <br />43 a. When to start applying tack and coordinating with paving. <br />44 <br />45 b. Types of equipment and numbers of each type of equipment to be used.
