Cracks and joints shall be thoroughly clean, dry and <br /> 31 free of all loose and foreign material when filled with crack sealant material. <br /> 32 Immediately prior to filling a crack or joint with the sealant material a hot air lance shall <br /> I 33 be used to dry and warm the pavement surfaces within the crack or joint. Pavement <br /> 34 shall not be overheated and direct flame dryers shall not be used. Routing cracks and <br /> 35 joints is not required. <br /> I 36 <br /> 37 Where cracks and joints are to be filled with sand slurry thoroughly mix the components <br /> 38 and pour the mixture into the cracks and joints until full. Additional CSS-1 emulsified <br /> 39 asphalt may be added to the sand slurry as needed for the mixture to be workable to <br /> I 40 completely fill the crack or joint. Strike off the sand slurry flush with the existing <br /> 41 pavement surface and allow the mixture to cure. Cracks or joints that were not <br /> 42 completely filled shall be topped off with additional sand slurry. Do not place the HMA <br /> I 43 overlay until the slurry has fully cured. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 Where cracks and joints are to be filled with hot poured sealant the material shall be <br /> I46 applied in accordance with these requirements and the manufacturer's <br /> I AMENDMENTS TO THE 2016 STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS BOOK <br /> Revised: 1/4/16 <br />
