CITY OF EVERETT PUBLIC WORKS SECTION 01 56 00 <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS <br /> 5. The Contractor shall not stockpile waste materials on the site without prior 111permission from the Engineer. Locations of stockpiles, should they be permitted, <br /> shall be coordinated with the Engineer. <br /> 6. Upon completion of the Work, the Contractor shall be responsible for cleaning all <br /> portions of the storm drain system that have been affected by the project. The <br /> Engineer shall determine what drainage structures shall be cleaned and whether the <br /> piping between said structures shall be flushed. <br /> B. STREET AND PAVEMENT CLEANING <br /> 1. The Contractor shall be responsible for preventing dirt and dust from escaping from <br /> trucks departing the project site,by covering dusty loads, washing truck tires before <br /> leaving the site,or other reasonable methods. <br /> 2. When trucks and/or other equipment are on Port property and paved streets and <br /> roadways, the Contractor will be required to clean Port property and said streets if <br /> determined by the Engineer at the conclusion of each day's operations and/or during <br /> the work shift. The Contractor shall perform street sweeping immediately upon <br /> direction from the Engineer. The Engineer may require sweeping of streets, parking <br /> lots,driveways,or other areas of pavement affected by the construction activities. <br /> 3._ In the event that the above requirements are violated and no action is taken by the <br /> Contractor after notification of infraction by the Engineer, the City reserves the right <br /> to have the streets in question cleaned by others and the expense of the operation <br /> charged to the Contractor. <br /> 1.4 AIR POLLUTION CONTROL <br /> A. The Contractor shall not discharge smoke, dust, and other contaminants into the atmosphere that I <br /> violate the regulations of any legally constituted authority. Internal combustion engines shall not <br /> be allowed to idle for prolonged periods of time. The Contractor shall maintain construction ve- <br /> hicles and equipment in good repair. Exhaust emissions that are determined to be excessive by <br /> the Engineer shall be repaired or replaced. <br /> B. The Contractor shall minimize dust nuisance by cleaning, sweeping, vacuum sweeping, sprin- <br /> kling with water, or other means. The use of water, in amounts which result in mud on public <br /> streets,is not acceptable as a substitute for sweeping or other methods.Equipment for this opera- <br /> tion shall be on the job site or available at all times. <br /> 1.5 NOISE CONTROL <br /> A. Construction involving noisy operations, including starting and warming up of equipment shall <br /> be in compliance with local noise ordinances. The exception to this requirement includes the <br /> need to operate equipment for sewer bypassing.Noisy operations shall be scheduled to minimize <br /> their duration.
