CITY OF EVERETT PUBLIC WORKS SECTION 01 56 00 <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS <br /> B. The Contractor shall comply with all local controls and noise level rules, regulations and ordi- <br /> nances which apply to any work performed pursuant to the Contract. <br /> C. Each internal combustion engine, used for any purpose on the job or related to the job, shall be <br /> enclosed and be equipped with a muffler of a type recommended by the manufacturer. No inter- <br /> nal <br /> combustion engine shall be operated on the project without said muffler and enclosure. <br /> D. All noise generated by the Contractor shall be subject to the requirements of the City of Everett <br /> noise control regulations as set forth by EMC 20.08. <br /> 1.6 WATER CONTROL <br /> A. TEMPORARY PUMPING AND DRAINAGE <br /> 1. The Contractor shall conform to the regulations and requirements of City, Port, and <br /> Washington Department of Ecology. <br /> 2. The Contractor shall be responsible for keeping excavations for the structures, trenches <br /> and other areas free from water as required to permit continuous progress of, or to <br /> prevent damage to, its own work or the work of others. The Contractor's operations <br /> shall be conducted in such a manner as to prevent sediment or other contaminants from <br /> reaching the existing sewers, storm drains, creeks or streams. Temporary erosion <br /> control shall be provided in the work area as required to trap runoff until the turbidity <br /> has settled and the water can be diverted into the discharge system. <br /> 3. The Contractor shall cover exposed excavated areas and spoil piles when runoff from <br /> ' rain is or would be likely to cause turbid waters to enter local waterways. The Contractor <br /> shall suspend work in the rain if such work cannot be performed without causing turbid <br /> runoff. If turbid water is discovered entering storm drainage structures,the Engineer may <br /> suspend the work immediately. All costs associated with suspension of the work shall be <br /> the responsibility of the Contractor. Work shall remain suspended until turbid runoff has <br /> been eliminated. <br /> 1 4. To avoid solids or turbid runoff from entering local waterways and storm drain systems, <br /> the Contractor shall cover, secure, and/or berm excavated areas and spoil piles and <br /> employ other methods as necessary such as hay or straw bales around storm drains or <br /> ' around construction sites, use of cut and cover construction method, or use of <br /> sedimentation basins. <br /> ' B. WATER QUALITY MEASURES <br /> 1. Erosion control measures shall be ked in accordance with section 01 57 13 <br /> ' and shall be in place prior to any clearing or grading activity. <br /> 2.
