I <br /> ' CITY OF EVERETT PUBLIC WORKS SECTION 01 56 00 <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS <br /> D.Maintain on the job at each site the following materials(as a minimum): <br /> 1. Oil-absorbent booms:4 each,5 feet long. <br /> ' 2. Oil-absorbent pads or bulk material, adequate for coverage of 200 square feet of <br /> surface area. <br /> 1 3. Oil-skimming system. <br /> 4. Hay bales. <br /> 5. Oil dryall,gloves and plastic bags. <br /> 1.8 MONITORING AND DISPOSAL OF EXCAVATED MATERIALS <br /> ' A. The Engineer will monitor soils during excavation to classify excavated soil/waste materials for <br /> disposal either as contaminated or non-contaminated soils. Soils that have been identified by the <br /> Engineer as acceptable for re-use as backfill shall be stockpiled on-site at a location identified by <br /> the Port. Excess soils and materials shall be disposed at facilities permitted to accept the materials <br /> and as identified below: <br /> 1. Soil/waste materials classified by the Engineer as contaminated: Haul and <br /> dispose of at CEMEX facility, located at 6300 Glenwood Ave, Everett, WA <br /> ' 98203. <br /> 2. Materials classified by the Engineer as Non-contaminated: Haul and place at <br /> City Solid Waste Handling Facility, located at 4015 Railway Avenue, Everett, <br /> WA. City Contact is Mike Hale or Roy Harris at 425-247-8800. Contact 3 days <br /> prior to haul. Facility is available from 0730 to 1600 hours on weekdays. <br /> 1.9 CONTAMINATED/HAZARDOUS SOILS AND GROUNDWATER <br /> A. Contractor's responsibility <br /> 1. The Contractor shall monitor soils,groundwater and waste materials by instructing <br /> workers in observing and reporting questionable materials and odors, such as re- <br /> fuse, oily sheen or color on soils or water, and oily or chemical odors. If hazard- <br /> ous or contaminated materials are encountered, the Contractor shall stop all work <br /> in that area and notify the Engineer immediately. <br /> ' 2. The Contractor shall be responsible for all matters related to work safety and for <br /> detection of potentially contaminated soils and groundwater encountered during <br /> the construction as they relate to worker safety. The Contractor shall ensure the <br /> protection of the safety and health of construction workers and other authorized <br /> ' persons at the work site from exposure to potential toxic materials. <br /> 3. As part of the Contractor's safety program, workers shall be instructed by a spe- <br /> cialist on basic methods or techniques to assist workers in detecting hazardous <br /> soils or groundwater during construction of this project. <br /> PSO6 REROUTE 015600-5 <br /> WO NO. -UP3853 MAY2016 <br />
