I CITY OF EVERETT PUBLIC WORKS SECTION 01 56 00 ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS 4. Contractor shall stockpile excavated contaminated soils at a location identified by the Port on the Port property. Stockpile shall be placed on and covered with plas- tic sheeting at least 10 mils thick. 5. Soils that have been classified by the Engineer for disposal shall be disposed of, in accordance with section 1.8, as directed by the Engineer. The engineer may per- form additional tests if field screening shows evidence of contamination or if re- quired by the disposal facility,prior to disposal. I B.Notification and suspension 1. In the event the Contractor detects the presence of suspicious materials, the Contractor shall immediately notify the Engineer. Depending upon the type of problem identified, the Engineer may suspend the work in the vicinity of the material discovery under the provisions of section 5.3 of the general conditions. 2. Following completion of any further testing necessary to determine the nature of the materials involved, the Engineer will determine how the material shall be han- dled and disposed of. Although the actual procedures used in resuming the work shall depend upon the nature and extent of the questionable material,the following alternate methods of operation are foreseen as possible: a. Contractor to resume work as before the suspension. b. Contractor to move its operations to another portion of the work until measures to eliminate any hazardous conditions can be developed and approved by the appropriate regulatory agencies. c. The Engineer to direct the Contractor to dispose of the excavated ma- terial at an approved legal landfill site or in the case of groundwater provide adequate treatment prior to discharge/recharge. d. The Owner to terminate the Contract. PART 2-PRODUCTS -Not Used PART 3 -EXECUTION-Not Used PART 4—PAYMENT A. The work and materials necessary for providing and maintaining environmental controls in accordance with this Section, which are not included in other bid items, shall be considered incidental to the Work.
