I I 1 I 2 3 1) The loop locations shall be marked on the pavement by the contractor and approved by the engineer prior to sawcutting. At no point shall any 4 of the sawcuts pass closer than 1' to any utility cover. 5 2) Loop detector sealant shall be on the QPL and also be approved by the 6 Engineer. 7 3) Rope is not required. 8 4) Loops shall not be installed in rainy weather or at temperatures below I 9 400. 10 5) Loops shall be placed in the sawcut in a clockwise direction. 11 6) The loop sealant shall be applied in accordance with the 12 manufacturer's recommendations. 13 7) Loop wire shall be a minimum size of No. 14 AWG stranded copper, 14 Class B, with chemically cross linked polyethylene type RHH-RHW 15 insulation rated for a minimum of 600 volts. 16 8) The area around the conduit stub-out shall be patched with hot mix 17 asphalt concrete if it is greater than 2" in width. I 18 19 9) The sawcuts shall be of uniform depth and any sharp edges, abrasions or ridges shall be removed prior to placing the wire. 20 10)The sawcut depth shall be a minimum of 3W' and shall provide a I 21 minimum of 2" cover above the loop wires. 22 11)The sawcut width shall be a minimum of 1/4" for the loop and 3/8" for 23 the home run. 24 12)The sawcut shall be cleaned out with a high pressure water stream and I25 then dried with compressed air prior to placing the wire. 26 13)All splices between the loop wire and the loop lead-in cable shall be 27 soldered and utilize a splice kit in conformance with Standard Plan 28 806A, B and C. 29 14)When the roadway is to be overlaid as a part of the project, the loops 30 shall be installed prior to the final overlay. I 31 32 15)Circular loops are standard installations. The Contractor may propose the use of square or rectangular loops for consideration by the 33 Engineer. I 34 35 36 Existing Traffic Loops I 37 The Contractor shall notify the Area Traffic Engineer through the Engineer a 38 minimum of five working days in advance of pavement removal or grinding in 39 areas with existing loops. 40 I41 If the Engineer suspects that damage to any loop, not identified in the Plans as 42 being replaced, may have resulted from Contractor's operations or is not 43 operating adequately, the Engineer may order the Contractor to perform the I 44 field tests specified in Section 8 20.3(14)D. The test results shall be recorded 45 and submitted to the Engineer. Loops that fail any of these tests shall be 46 replaced. I47 48 Loops that fail the tests, as described above, and are replaced shall be 49 installed in accordance with current City of Everett design standards and I 50 Standard Drawings, as determined by the Engineer.
