I <br /> I <br /> 1 <br /> I <br /> 2 <br /> 3 1) The loop locations shall be marked on the pavement by the contractor <br /> and approved by the engineer prior to sawcutting. At no point shall any <br /> 4 of the sawcuts pass closer than 1' to any utility cover. <br /> 5 2) Loop detector sealant shall be on the QPL and also be approved by the <br /> 6 Engineer. <br /> 7 3) Rope is not required. <br /> 8 4) Loops shall not be installed in rainy weather or at temperatures below <br /> I 9 400. <br /> 10 5) Loops shall be placed in the sawcut in a clockwise direction. <br /> 11 6) The loop sealant shall be applied in accordance with the <br /> 12 manufacturer's recommendations. <br /> 13 7) Loop wire shall be a minimum size of No. 14 AWG stranded copper, <br /> 14 Class B, with chemically cross linked polyethylene type RHH-RHW <br /> 15 insulation rated for a minimum of 600 volts. <br /> 16 8) The area around the conduit stub-out shall be patched with hot mix <br /> 17 asphalt concrete if it is greater than 2" in width. <br /> I <br /> 18 <br /> 19 9) The sawcuts shall be of uniform depth and any sharp edges, abrasions <br /> or ridges shall be removed prior to placing the wire. <br /> 20 10)The sawcut depth shall be a minimum of 3W' and shall provide a <br /> I 21 minimum of 2" cover above the loop wires. <br /> 22 11)The sawcut width shall be a minimum of 1/4" for the loop and 3/8" for <br /> 23 the home run. <br /> 24 12)The sawcut shall be cleaned out with a high pressure water stream and <br /> I25 then dried with compressed air prior to placing the wire. <br /> 26 13)All splices between the loop wire and the loop lead-in cable shall be <br /> 27 soldered and utilize a splice kit in conformance with Standard Plan <br /> 28 806A, B and C. <br /> 29 14)When the roadway is to be overlaid as a part of the project, the loops <br /> 30 shall be installed prior to the final overlay. <br /> I <br /> 31 <br /> 32 15)Circular loops are standard installations. The Contractor may propose <br /> the use of square or rectangular loops for consideration by the <br /> 33 Engineer. <br /> I <br /> 34 <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Existing Traffic Loops <br /> I 37 The Contractor shall notify the Area Traffic Engineer through the Engineer a <br /> 38 minimum of five working days in advance of pavement removal or grinding in <br /> 39 areas with existing loops. <br /> 40 <br /> I41 If the Engineer suspects that damage to any loop, not identified in the Plans as <br /> 42 being replaced, may have resulted from Contractor's operations or is not <br /> 43 operating adequately, the Engineer may order the Contractor to perform the <br /> I 44 field tests specified in Section 8 20.3(14)D. The test results shall be recorded <br /> 45 and submitted to the Engineer.
